Avatars.

Today I've checked all avatars.
The once that were to big in size / filesize have been removed.

On the old board pictures that were to big were automaticly resized.
This board doesn't have such an option, so all pictures showed up in their original size this was the main reason people were using pictures that were to big.


Avatar rules:

Max: 80x80 pixels.
Filesize: 100 KB ( this counts for avatar and signature images )

That's correct, 89,920 members.

nope, I used the Members List which shows 40 members @ the same time with their avatars.

We gained 13 members since the move to VB:w00t::w00t::w00t:!

however with the database lose we lost a couple of thousand:ermm:.

That's correct, I made a topic about it in the lounge, Only admins/mods can have bigger avatars atm, because I wanna test if it would make a difference if members would be allowed to have an avatar that is max 100x100 instead of 80x80.

if we would allow bigger avatars in size then more people will start using oversized avatars in filesize so that would be the only problem also I think 150 is 2 big the max would be 100

Most avatars are stuff people ahve seen on the weba nd are much bigger and the forum resizes them but keeps the same file size anyway.

100 square is perfect I think, 150 would look hidious, my sig is 150 high, if you had that square at the side the board would be all pictures :ph34r:
Nah, 100 x 100 is fine, I would'nt think there would be any problems as long as the file size is kept down, having said that it could be made that we upload our own, therefore not harming the db in any way.
File size could still be kept the same, 100kb is fine, always has been.

i was just saying that it could be that big before it disrupts the board's layout.

IKE you can just set the max avatar file size to 100kb or maybe 70kb or something. :)

Most boards I have seen use 100x100..which is fine..anything bigger just lloks awkward...buut..how long must we debate this..just do it

I was always under the impression that the database does not contain any pics, only links to the pics. When the database uploads the pics for display then it sizes them according to the display rules. That is why when picture host 'goes down' the forum is littered by wee red 'X's where pics from that host should be.
If the pics were 'stored' on the Forum database pics would be displayed everytime you accessed a post.

Is it not a mixture of both. Some people hot link and some upload, or is that option gone now.I dont know how it is linked. It is just that the database only contains 'text' whether they be hot links or upload links. That is why it should be easy to change your Sig and Avator which are dynamic links within your profile. If you change your Sig and Avator, then that changes in every post that you access, whatever the date. The upload and hot links within a post however will remain unchanged as they are not dynamic, until that post is accessed, and a permanent part of the database unless the post is edited. I could probably have worded that better, but I am out of practice.:)
