ok i have a 4 gig file in winrar and cant get it unzipped because it wont let me

(windows xp) and its saying ntfs can unzip it

i was wondering how i can unzip this file without converting to ntfs

just convert fat32 to ntfs, and u will be able to unzip...

but i recommend fat32, as if ur comp crashes, and u boot from 98 or some other startup disc, an ntfs partition wont even show up, u will have to make the hdd a slave and do something bout it....sadly u can convert ntfs to fat32 only by formattingthats scared me

also if i can get this iso onto cd without extracting

also what would happen if i converted to ntsf? how would i be able to convert back if at all?

when my comp is getting slow with errors i usually use a cd i got which restores it back to when i bought it so its like a clean install will i still be able to use if i convert to ntfs?

only way would be to se ntfs afaik.

with XP you don't need to use a 98 boot disc so no need to worry about that. when you have a problem you use your windows XP cd to boot into setup.

edit: this site tells how to do it

why not just create a partition of 5GB, as ntfs then unrar to there?

use partition magic, create a partition - its point and click

tell it to create it as ntfs, et voila

u know...ntfs isn't so bad at all. in fact, it's better than fat32

given the scenario that ur comp crashes in the middle of something...

on fat32, u will usually face the scandisk, which detects some silly file inconsistencies and then ruin ur current work (i've seen how it messes up my overnet downloads by just discriminating one critical part file)

on ntfs however, there's no need for scandisk...crashing is like reboot, u go back to wat u have previously done, no files are lost (unless u forgot to save ur work before the crash, then nuthin in this world can help u).

also, ntfs dun crash as often as fat32. even if it does, it's definitely ur hardware, like ur ram for instance. fat32 can crash for so many reasons it is absurd.

ntfs is much more robust that fat32. however, i can't deny the fact that ntfs partition can die...but u have to try really hard to make it happen. if i'm not wrong, windows actually have some tools that will make sure u can repair the partition if it so happens to die on that very "day".

well yeah, this is by far and away the best advice, its much nicer to just go with ntfs
