Only 85 minutes till the game :01:

We have a really strong team today, Owen & Rooney up front hopefully banging them in.

There has been lots in the paper today about the racist chants at last night's under 21's game and also spouted by the Spanish manager, I liked the way yesterday we trained in the 'Kick Racism Out Of Football' t-shirts, but there has also been stuff said about the Arsenal v Man Utd buffet fight and how they think it might overflow tonight with Reyes playing against Gary Neville. Hopefully it won't and it will be a resounding win for us.

I predict a scoreline of 3-1 to England :01: Anyone else care to hazard a prediction?

I predict 2-1 to england

I cant see england coping without scholes, also i'd like to add beckham is more intrested in being a celeb thats why man utd kicked him out and thats what england should do.

 that cracks me up, Man Utd are blatantly suffering after selling him

Beckhams career has been going downhill ever since man utd sold him, he was more interested in being a celeb and Alex saw that.

Again last season they never played to bad, this season they beat arsenal and I guess that’s all that really matters to them.

DanB

They are a shadow of their former selves.

If he is more interested in being a celeb than a footballer why is he doing so well at Real Madrid? They love him there and when he Chelsea enquired about buying him they told them to take a running jump

The same rascist chanting as there was last night

Haven't you hear the monkey noises everytime Sean Wright-Phillips gets near the ball?

I stopped watching it about 10 minutes ago, the substitutions spoiled the game - as they invariably do in friendlies - and the racist chanting was sickening. I felt embarrassed for Shaun Wright-Phillips and Ashley Cole :(

DanB
11-17-2004, 10:22 PM
Agreed.

I actually find it quite sickening.

Me too, the chanting and the football. I mean it must have a pretty serious effect on the players game

It was like stepping back to the 70's and the 80's

manker
11-17-2004, 10:25 PM
It is not them who should feel bad. It is the racist scum, tho' I know what you mean.

There is no place for that sort of behaviour in this day and age.
Of course. It must make them feel terrible tho'

If it was me I know that despite wanting to do my best for my country I'd just want to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible.

You can't prove ignorant racists wrong by being a good football player, it will just make the chants worse.

manker
11-17-2004, 10:26 PM
The bad aspects. What were the good aspects - there was a dearth of real talent in those days.

The hairstyles were pretty inventive :D

manker
11-17-2004, 10:37 PM
Aye, I meant in the UK. Between the skilful sides of the 50s and 60s and the technically superb sides of the 90s and this decade you had the mediocrity of the 70s and 80s.

Brazil in the 1970 WC was probably the best side ever. I reckon.

Cept when liverpool got us banned from Europe

Jonno

DanB
11-17-2004, 11:18 PM
Without doing any research whatsoever, I think that the English sides may have dominated European club football during a substantial period of the 70's / 80's.

Until we were banned :(

DanB
11-17-2004, 11:23 PM
That would be the "fans" not the clubs.

I thought the clubs were banned from European football too after the Heysel Stadium thing

edit - I just realised you may have been talking to Joto and not me

manker

Without doing any research whatsoever, I think that the English sides may have dominated European club football during a substantial period of the 70's / 80's.Indeed.

Liverpool were superfit and could run really fast for 90 minutes. Faster than anyone else at the time. K. Keegan was the ultimate exponent of the fast running, poorly talented players of the time.

imho

Kick and rush has never impressed me.

I'm not including Dalglish in that, btw, he was an excellent player.

That Liverpool side of the late 70s and 80s would be mediocre by todays standards. It was a particularly poor time for European football. Coincidently - or not - it got a lot better a few years after English teams were banned.

manker
11-17-2004, 11:37 PM
This is true, perhaps I'm being a git.

If their contemporaries were better maybe that Liverpool side would have been inspired to greater technical performance levels.

My 2 penneth worth on tonights not so beautiful game...

Oh...btw....why were England back passing so much, they didn't get the ball much, and when they did....back it went....to and fro....why didn't they ATTACK!!! ffs...poor, poor, poor....shitty passing, standing around like a bunch of lemons...

Jon L. Obscene
11-18-2004, 01:04 AM

They played against the best opposition in Europe. They won, that was their job.

The current cream of English football cannot do the same. That is all.

I owe ya a pint, Fugs :D
