I voted 4 times, I can't remember what my choices were but in keeping with the time honoured tradition regarding internet polls, I definitely ticked the boxes without reading the choices.

I voted a time for families.

I am not religious so i am not celebrating anything however i use it as a day to gather my loved ones and spend time with them.

It helps that we have children, i don't think it would be the same without them.... problem is this is where the comercialism comes in because they "absolutley NEED the toys they see advertised on TV".....

I voted it's a time for families.

I'm not religious, but Christmas has always been special to me, simply because I get to spend quality time with my family and friends, just appreciating what we have together.

I'm a huge gift giver as well, not so much spending a huge amount of money, but trying to get everyone that "perfect gift" that I know they'll treasure. Just so they know how much I love them. :)

For example, this year, I did a painting for my parents and had it framed. :) I know my parents will love it, simply because I made it. My brother and I also got together to buy them a new tree for the yard (which they can pick up in March :lol: ) since my brother and I have spent the last 2 years helping to landscape their yard, putting in gardens, interlocking brick pathways and driveways.

Quite honestly the whole concept of time with the family is vastly over-rated. My parents are fine, but my cousins and such are strangers I see once a year. My family is pretty tame, but so many families get together and after a few drinks the veneer of harmony drops away. Domestic knifings and shootings are a way of holiday life in San Antonio.

You can't choose your extended family, so screw'em.

I take this time of year to remind myself to slow down and actually smell the flowers. Sounds corny coming from me, but we do get wrapped up in day to day life and forget to give thanks for what we have and what we take for granted on a daily basis.

For instance, running water. We should all luxuriate in this daily splendor, not just bitch when we don't have enough hot.

Water, food, car, job, safe place to live, good parents- sometimes we need to conciously tell ourselves good we have it and how much we take for granted.
