The speed of the computer has very little to do with burning speed. If your computer can run win 98 or higher, you'll be fine.

Fast Media?

and i can install 200/xppro/longhorn/win2003 so it ok then?

fast media means that u need a cd that matches the speed of the drive and as long as ur system is stable and runs without any crashes u'll be fine.

tip: always have clean cds when burning cuz if some dust builds up on the motor and the cd breaks inside the drive the cd will break inside the drive and the drive will blow up and im not lying cuz this happened to me using a 52x cd burner drive.

be careful with cd writers that write at speeds of 50x and more there has been documented cases where the cd will actually spin so fast it will fly right out of the cd writer itself.

Burning at the maximum speed of a burner is NOT recommended. The disks would most likely come out with coasters and you just waisted a disk. What I recommend is to burn at half the maximum speed. So if your burner's maximum burn speed is 52x, I would burn the disk at 26x. This has never caused any problems with my disks except one, but that only happened because my comp gave me a BSOD while burning.

16x isnt bad.... slower reduces chances of errors :P

16x is "fast enough". I burn at 24x most of the time but if it's something important that I can't replace I will burn much slower. I must also point out that 52x is not nearly twice as fast as 24x.

In any case, how fast do you really need? To burn a CD in less than 5 minutes is fine with me. So 16x is fine.

My CD Writer can burn at a max of 12X. When I has 256MB RAM a full data disk used to take about 15 mins. I bought an extra 512MB the other day and now they burn in about 6/7 mins - a benefit I wasn't expecting.

i also suggest that cutting the speed in half cuz of disk explosions and emergency ejections but it wouldnt hurt if u try maybe once a month in most cases.

I have used a DELL Pentium 166mHz laptop (with Win98), and inserted a 24 speed burner into the CDROM bay. No problems at all in burning!

TIP: You will get better performance with more RAM, though.

You don't need a high-end PC, but a fast hard drive and plenty of ram would help. I have a Memorex 52x24x52, with a 550MHz PIII, a 7200rpm hard drive and 384MB of ram. When I burn with Nero, I usually check the box that says "Determine Maximum Speed", which tests your read speed and automatically adjusts your burn speed to match. Most times it burns at 52x, but sometimes it lowers the speed to 48x. No flying saucers yet!

i got an acer 128 ram pIII, 800mhz, 8x 4x 32x and it runs fine

If you burn too fast you risk spinning the data off the disk and it clogs up your fans.

Soul's right Merlin. Most of your posts are good, but please try to avoid just posting one word (or worse, just an emoticon). A lot of users get annoyed when you do that. ;)

What do you mean? Are you saying like if Clone CD copies bins/isos from the HD to the CD?

Clone CD doesn't do that. It just makes CD images of a CD.

You can burn with CloneCD, but only if you have a .img file and the .ccd file that goes with it (kind of like a .cue file). Those are the type of files it makes when you copy from a CD.

No it's true. I once had a song fly right off the disk as I was burning it and it got stuck inside my tower. Now every time I open my CD tray, I hear Nine Inch Nails singing "Into the Void". :-"

I was reading about exploding cd's in a magazine, and this guy found a bit of cd stuck in his leg after it exploded, these thing are like bombs with shatnal and all.

CD manufactures blame the drive manufactures and vice-versa, but alot of the blame lays on the cheap manufactures which make dodgy cd's with cracks in them.
