Is there an EASY way remove the gray area from this icon? Tried PS CS and paint but they were bein pains in the ass.

The only way you are going to do that, is, with the lasso tool, select the part of the icon that you would like.

or try the magic wand tool and play with the settings (tolerance - I'd go with 50)

clean it up with the eraser tool.

ya use the eraser to get kinda close to the icons but dont erase anything too close to it. then use the magic wand tool and play around with the tolerance until it's erasing the right bit of the image and press delete.

then use the rectangular selection tool to highlight just the icon and copy and paste to a smaller workspace then you've got just the icon. :)

Ok, I cropped some other icons, did some other stuff, blah, blah, blah, and had to reboot. When my pc came back up, this (http://img125.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img125&image=desktop58.jpg) is what shows. Why the heck didn't my icons stay. I spent several hours on them so I'm kinda pissed. The extensions on the one I made were all .ico's.

I changed the icons by right-clicking them and choosing 'properties' > 'change icon' and then browsing to the folder I had the customized icons in.

The IE one I changed by going to display properties > desktop tab > customize desktop.

did they get moved or something?
try putting one or two back then restart and see if they stay...

try putting one or two back then restart and see if they stay...Strange...I don't remember moving them...but the path was slightly different than the location...oh well, thx.

Once I'm totally done with them, I'll post another screenshot.

Do you want it like this? No, just the photoshop icon, no gray at all.

I gotta figure out how to make the ico into a pdg though first. Wait a sec, how'd you do it? It looks like you used MSPaint.

(Photoshop) Magic eraser..

You can try axialis icon editor (http://www.axialis.com/iconworkshop/) to convert icons..

You're having the same prob's I was. I couldn't get rid of the square look. I always had a white boxey background. If you open it in PS, it appears to have a transparent background and I even saved it as such, but when I changed the icon, it appeared as a square. I would like it to appear circular so it matches the other icons I have up. Any suggestions?

I've got what you've got. The square boxey stuff I get if I make it an icon looks like this:

I want it to look circular like the other icons on my desktop (see original post with screenshot)

I see what you mean now. You have to make a icon with a transparent background:

Alright, several things:

1. How did you save it with a transparent background? That's what I was so unsuccessful with.

2. How come when I used that icon it came out blurry?

3. How do you insert a file into a post?

1. What app are you using. I am using Photoshop/Axialis IconWorkshop 5.0. You will need to explore the app you are using more to find out how.

2. You most likely are re-sizing it to a smaller size and/or including "blank space"

3. Click Additional Options down there when you post.

So, Is that what you want that icon to look like?Yeah, but look how it is when I unzip it: Way to small. But why?

if u are saving as jpeg it will automatically fill the blank space with white. You have to save as a gif to have transparency.

But to be an icon, it needs to be an ico

that's where an ico creator comes in. I've never made an ico file before and I think you need a program that does that specifically.

If you check my picture you will see it is in 4 diffrent formats/sizes. What you will see depends on your view settings of your folder/desktop. On the desktop it should look big.
