Check out Mesh Computers (http://www.meshcomputers.com/).

It's where I get mine from. I'm sure you could get something far better for that money, including an OS.

Well I have a problem recommending what you have listed. The parts don't show the manufacture's names.

What I mean is... Who makes the RAM, HDD, DVD±RW or DVD-ROM.

Even the CPU. It doesn't say if it's a 754 pin or 939 pin.

The motherboard seems to support both 754 and 939 but again, who makes it?

I'll take curtain #3, Bob.

Oh look!
I've won the George Forman Personal Computer/Grill Combo!

wOOt!

Really guy...listen to VB.
That could be an excellent deal, but it's unlikely.
If they were using quality ( or even brand-name) components, they would for sure brag about it.

well I know a guy who used to work for it and he said the computers look fancy and the parts are shit so I am going to go the processor and thats it since thats all I REALLY need (being secuded by fancy crap) I currently have an AMD athlon xp 2000+ and I forget my motherboard (sorry just woke up) would it be compatible with my stuff?

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512 DDR 2700 Ram
Win XP Pro

thats all I need to list really

Same thing I was gonna say. If they come from reputable companies, than yes, this is probably a good buy. Problem is though, if they were reputable companies their names would probably be listed in order to help push the sale. Worth looking into though.

If you're gonna spend about that much, look here (http://sys.us.shuttle.com/BuyList.aspx?id=1003&type=u). Holiday discount on this one (http://sys.us.shuttle.com/BuildXPC.aspx?id=1083). These are the same brand that I have and I love it.

I think it is this (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-157-035&depa=1) motherboard. It has both Socket 754 and Socket 939 (with dual channel memory control) but obviously you could only use one socket at any one time.

If they can do both sockets for that price, I would guess the quality is going to be lacking elsewhere.

no you can't use a 64bit chip(754/939) on a socket A motherboard.

I've seen that one. I think that's really a bad idea to have both sockets.

1. any opponent of technological progress.
2. one of the 19th century English workmen who destroyed labor-saving machinery that they thought would cause unemployment.

I assume you are referring to the first definition.

The second refers to a group of saboteurs, but without the sandals. Somehow that doesn't seem to fit VB. I feel sure he has sandals. :D

Yes, almost certainly.
Unfortunately, given his aversion to dual-purpose gear, when he upgrades his feet he will have to purchase new ones.

Those profligate Canadians.

:)

I don't oppose technological progress. In fact I think the board should only have socket 939 because that's more advanced technology. And with a 90nm CPU, even better. :P

Those feet however...

Oh puleeeeze....
Trying to impress us with your hip terminology and high-falootin airs.

I happen to know that you have Canada's largest working collection of Quantum Bigfeet and consider every processor since the slotted Intels to be "overkill" and "not terribly practical or necessary".

Trying to pick up babes here in Hworld by slinging around such exotic phrases as "socket 939" and the like will only lead to sorrow and perdition young man....I would suggest you look long and hard at your ways.
Perhaps you can be saved before it's too late.

But get new sandals in any case.

Just overkill!

Does Birkinstock even make mukluks?

No but there are plenty of Inuit suppliers further north than me. So no need for Birkinstock.

Is it really true that the Inuit language has 200 words for "snow" and not a single one for "socket 939"?

I don't know but if you say it then it must be true.
