Making Music ?

Hi,
I was wondering if you lot can help me.
I like Trance music and would like to try my hand at making some on my PC.
I have a bit of music knowledge and have recently been playing with a free program called Hammerhead that makes drum loops and it is great even if simple.
What I want advice on it what is the best or most common program out there that can make whole music scores with multi channels etc. from scratch and not just a program that you have to import samples made in other programs.
I found one called Jazz but it only uses old traditional instuments I want something modern with all the sounds you find on modern Trance and dance music.

Any Ideas ?

Fruity Loops 4.5.2 Executive Edition is the copy I have right now with loads of sources for it, so make sure it's not older than this one, as it fixes a lot of problems :)
