do you always use anti-static equipment when working on your machine(s)? do you use just a wrist strap or the whole mat kit? or do you not use anything at all? Have you ever flucked something up because of it?

(just had to order a full kit, can't get away with just the strap anymore http://www.filesharingtalk.com/vb3/images/smilies/ermm.gif )

Apparently it's not allowed by professional standards, it ensures yourself against unnecessary damage ect http://www.filesharingtalk.com/vb3/images/smilies/ermm.gif

I don't use anything. Never had any problems.

Which is a bit silly really as I have all these out of date condoms lying around...

Mr. Mulder

Unless I give them to Chavs who will inevitably put them over their heads and thus get gangrene of the head. :01:

Electrostatic Discharge

Not as fun as it sounds.I got that bit, I meant what would we get the electric shocks from?

Is it our PCs or ... acrylic cardigans :crying:

Mr. Mulder

It's to protect the computer from the user, anti static equipment prevents us from giving an electric discharge and messing up the circuits

if you earthed your case and touched a circuit, wouldn't it still affect it? http://www.filesharingtalk.com/vb3/images/smilies/blink.gif

TheDave

if you touch the case you'll be safe. i think thats the same as properly earthing it

Mr. Mulder
12-09-2004, 08:58 PM
IF YOU WERE TO TOUCH YOUR CASE THEN ANY ESD YOU MIGHT HAVE WOULD GO, BUT IF YOU WERE TO TOUCH CIRCUITS INSIDE THE CASING, THEY WOULDN'T BE PROTECTED WOULD THEY? I DON'T THINK IT'S SUPPOSED TO GO THROUGH THE ACTUAL CIRCUITS AND THEN GO AWAY http://www.filesharingtalk.com/vb3/images/smilies/unsure.gif

Fuck cap locks, not typing that again, it's spelt wrong anyway http://www.filesharingtalk.com/vb3/images/smilies/ermm.gif

TheDave

wh4T DOES AN ANTI-STATIC KIT DO THAT TAPPING THE CASE DOESNT?! THEY BOTH EVEN THE CHARGE BETWEEN PC AND USER SO A CHRGE CANT GO FROM YOU THROUGH A COMPONENT TO THE CASE TO EARTH IT
