I'm think I'm going to need a new Laser Lens or DVD-Drive
for my PS2.

After I got the Magic 3 chip a few days ago (after having the PS2 for 2 years,
but barely playing it because I only had 2 crappy games to play) back-ups seemed to work fine, with a "Cannot read DVD Disc" error only very occasionally which could usually be fixed after opening and closing the DVD Drive. I use TDK and Proformance DVD-Rs

After playing an original PAL (The standard here), rental version of GoldenEye, which
worked fine, the PS2 seems to have died, no game can be
read, whether original or backup. This was kind of progressive, GTA: SA Got to the loading screen before the drive started making a weird noise which is pretty tell-tale that the DVD Can't be read before giving a CAn't Read DVD Error, now I'm always stuck on the PS2 Browser.

I've tried using a DVD lens cleaner which isn't read
properly either, it gets to the menu, then the DVD Drive
begins to make the "ehh ehh ehh" noise that it does with
games before I get the "Disc Cannot Be Read Error"

Any advice?

It sounds like you need a PS2.

Forget the laser. A new PS2 will cost near the same.

I can get a new lens plus fitting for around $50

no no, the lens plus the procedure.

This is so fucking annoying! I just got that chip 6 days ago with 7 games to play which I've played for around an hour all together over the last week because I just havn't had time.

Today was the day I was going to spend the whole time playing and it doesn't work now...

And it's my birthday :(

Have you even opened it up to clean it manually?

No... Not into opening up delicate electronics :/

Do you think it's just dirty?

Oh, before you open it. Check to see if you got a Walmart anywhere near you. You can return anything there.

That could make things a little more difficult.

Plus there's a chip in it.

Plus there's a chip in it.

thats why its important for a walmart to be around,

its called the Walmart Swap

walmart will replace your ps2 for a new one, just say you bought it from them, and that you lost the reciept, but you want to exchange it for a new one, works very well, my first ps2 died, so i swapped it at walmart with the chip inside, and got a new one (at the time it was new, around 2 yrs ago, or maybe last year?) and got a new modchip and installed it.

but walmart swap is useful

My brother opened up the PS2 like the link suggested, cleaned the laser very thoroughly and lubed up the sides to allow the laser to move easily with a silicone based lube.

Didn't help :(

Going to take it to a store on monday to see if they can't find the problem...

My Birthday was ruined because of this shit... Is there a possibility that it could have been the chip?

Cheap ass PS2s. They always break. You never hear a story about a broken Xbox.

That's why I have both :)

Xbox games are just harder to "back up" and too damn expensive!

I got that PS2 in 2002, got 2 games in the 3 years I've had it... Since getting my chip, I got 10 games in 5 days :)
