Is there hope for Kazaa to be what it was about a year ago?
I remember when there were almost 4,000,000 users, and I could download 600MB files in 2-3hours. Now im lucky to see 2,500,000 and it takes almost 1-2 day to download 600MB files.
It seems to me like it could if more people would stop being so paranoid and share, and if everyone would delete there fake and non working files.
It is true; everyone seems to be going to BitTorrent. I admit I have used Azureus and it works well, but it still is not what Kazaa used to be.

Just wondering what others are thinking!

I hate to so say it but, its primarily the users of Kazaa that suck. It's all the file sharing noobs. I had Bearshare for awhile and never got a fake file in probably 1 1/2 years of sharing there. Same with Soulseek which is where I get 100% of my music these days. Kazaa is just a haven for junk files, porn, and viruses. It should be taken offline for a year or so and maybe start fresh again.

I think there is a flaw in the harshing method used in the fastTrack network that allows fakes.

as for fakes, ok use verified files from sites like findhash.com and sharethefiles.com... and you will get a round this fake problems ... it is still the fastest download p2p network for all types of connections and specially for my dial up connection...

k-lite is still great, but shareaza is the king.

@isamma - that helps, somewhat, unless they corrupt that file by seeding fakes sections. then, even with a sig2dat link, you'll still be fucked :(

it doesn't matter much, since you can block a LARGE percentage of fakes by simply using protowall with the latest blacklist. but then again, like skizo said, the network is filled with all the noobs at which you may get a fucked up section from :\

but in the long run, kazaa is still the best all-around client in terms of ease of use with good speed ;)

well to me the gnutella networks are kinda slow, good for somethings, but still slow ;)

and i like how you removed the part on how to block most fakes, guess it didn't fit you criteria

I'll admit I used to use kazaa back in the day, however that was back when there were on adverage 4mil users.

I've considered making something (not hornetp2p), that would use ants (or another next gen) networking, but look like kazaa. It'd be an easy no brainer client, for noobie windows users. Though it would lack any really advanced features.

I strongly feel that filesharing like kazaa is going to fade into obscurity if not just die outright someday. Sure they could release a new client that is anonymous and secure, etc. But it wouldn't connect to the current fasttrack network. Though at this point since they have lost half thier users, well it'd probably be a good idea. Most of the users that remain are probably poor noobies that are clueless or just not paying attention to anything (due to being too stoned out or something, lol).

Then there is the kazaa lite group which I'm guessing is the much larger percentage of the fasttrack network and is only slightly less clueless than the kazaa users. Still since fasttrack is flooded with so much fakes, corruption, etc. Why wouldn't they just want to break off to form thier own network anyways? Simply code into a new version a feature which detects old versions / kazaa and disconnect from them or something. Then maybe even slowly work on writing a new next gen network into it (like i2p, tor, mute). Finally at some point have both networks enabled, then when most users have upgraded to the latest version, simply disable and drop the old networking from future versions.

Well that's just a idea anyways, lol.

i think its better for things like bittorent to become more popular.
at least then you have to put a little effort into finding things, and no noobs will piss it up for you.
i hate to say it, but the noobs messed kazaa up for good.sharing fakes, and not protecting themselves. they asked for it.
