What does the term "girlfriend on the side" mean?

It usually refers to the person you’re cheating with :unsure: if you’re married or have a current girlfriend and then you start with another at the same time, she’d be considered your bit on the side.

Some people use it to refer to a girlfriend you’ve kept secret, but the above is the most common term ;)
