I'm looking for suggestions to create:

a) A DivX movie from a DVD-9, and
b) An Xvid movie from a DVD-9

Anything using DVD Decryptor would be great as I know the ins and outs of it, although it's not a must.

I'm using AutoGK (auto gordian knot).
It's very easy (there's noting you really need to do) and produces high quality xvid or divx. The process takes quite some time though.

Yes I was looking at Gordian Knot, it looks ok. Any other suggestions?

Maybe you can try Super DVD Ripper

Ok I'm looking for one in particular now. I've just tried Flask, and it seems to have copied only audio which took 6 hours, even though the settings were fine.

I remember using one a while back that was very detailed, and you could ensure the movie did not exceed a set amount of space, eg 700MB.

Any further suggestions?

gk is the best, auto gk is a god send, it was more complicated and alot less noob friendly.
autogk is the only way I would convert it.

Totally - GK was great, but setting all the options was a pain in the ass. AutoGK is amazing. Really great quality rips.

There's a walkthrough for it here (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/autogk.htm)

ok i've tried it and it's fucking excellent :)

just one thing though, say if i wanted to reduce the size from say 7xx by 5xx to something lower to reduce the size further, it has an option of width only. Would AGK automatically reduce the length of the screen image as well?

Yes, it will, as it resizes using the aspect ratio of the video file you're reading from.
