Is there any way to make your own ps to usb connector like you can with an xbox controller?

not to sure, it'll be alot more complicated than the xbox one as the playstations connections isnt a usb one, the ports on the xbox are usb thats why its so easy.

try a different usb port, mines sometimes does things like that but putting it in another port usually works.
