View Full Version : Computer just stopped recogniseing my CD-RW and DVD+RW drives.

My computer just recently stopped recognising my CD-RW and DVD+RW drives. It just worked yesterday. Ok so I just got my copy od cod in the mail ( :01: :01: ) and I put the disc in the drive and nothing happened so I was like wtf so I went to My Computer and it doesnt show my two drives. Wtf mates? :frusty:

try restarting :P I did...twice and I took out my psu cord and waited like 5 mins for the capacitators to recharge or w/e and I reconnected it and still no luck. What do I do?? :sick:

System restore should sort it. :)

This advice assumes you are running XP...
Remove case sidepanel (machine is powered OFF!) and unplug both drives.
Turn on machine and boot to desktop.
Shut down.
Plug both drives in.
Start up again and Windows should detect and install the "new hardware".
If so, replace sidepanel and cross your fingers.

try removing the drives in the device manger and rescaning?...

this has happened to so many people on this forum it's sickening.
Why does it happen to much. :huh:

I must have missed something, he tried loading a disc and his system went tits up, never mind, wonder what caused it? :unsure:

Ah too late I reinstalled XP but now my wireless connection seems abnormally slow and takes forever to load the internet. :blink: But I had to reinstall to get rid of that white stuff on my windows and no it was NOT cum! :mad3:

You re-installed windows becuase of a loose ide cable or windows forgetting about your cd drives for a few hours :huh:

I don't know if he was serious or not anymore, but I would have checked my IDE cables before doing any sort of re-install.... :blink:
