View Full Version : PC freezes after ALT+CTRL+DEL

hey guys

i dont know why, my computer freezes or becomes dead slow after i press ALT+CTRL+DEL, and the i tried the XP system restore thing, but it didnt restore anything. i tried 2 different dates, nothin happened
Plus, i was trying to install a game from original cd (Secret Service), i got an error message

16 but Windows Subsystem
C\windows\system32\autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft applications. Choose Close to terminate the application. CLOSE IGNORE

if i press ignore nothin happens
and i installed this game before and it worked fine

I got
Compac, AMD Athlon XP 18ghz
Geforce 440 mx 64mb ddr
512 ram

if its a dos game, chances are it wont work, get yourself a dos boot disk.........

btw, a 18 ghz cpu? how much did that baby set you back?

put in your windows xp install cd.

click start>run>type "expand X:\i386\autoexec.nt_" (replace x:\ with your cd drive letter).


Then if the game still doesn't work try right-clicking>properties>compatability>and set it to use windows 98\me or windows 95 compatibility.


I went through all of this yesterday morning with quake II lol.

edit: and you don't have an 18ghz cpu. :P

Oh shit I'm going to get flamed here! But it could be so many things , heat issue , driver problem's you pick. If was me I 'd format and reinstall , you seem to have so many issues's, games , task manager. You say you went back to a restore point? Mabye an option, back up reinstall ?

Spybot search and destroy
Adaware
Symantec Corporate Edition
Wincleaner

nothin helped

not sure if this will work but.
put in your XP cd.
click start>run>type 'sfc /scannow'>click ok\press enter

it then scans your computer and replaces\fixes some windows files.
Could help with your problem. Definately worth a shot.

If that doesn't work then maybe reinstall windows (or do a repair install).

Does the task manager run if you: Start>Run <type> taskmgr ?
