80mm fans needed

Could someone recommend a couple of decent case fans? I need one at the front to suck and one at the back to blow :ooreermises: ..doesn't have to have fancy gadgets and temp readings ect, just quiet and efficient ;)

I have an Antec case fan, and its quite silent. A freind of mine has a couple thermaltake fans, they are quiet, but dont hardly move any air. I like antec, quiet and moves good air. I also have two Vantec tornados, but they sound like a vaccuum cleaner on nitrous.

I’ve been reading some reviews for Antec fans on ebuyer and they’re very mixed, that’s why I’ve asked instead of just clicking order :unsure:

I prefer AeroCool because the blade shape helps keep the noise down. Panaflo by Panasonic is very popular for keeping noise in check but it comes in only one style: black.

I have the 21 dollar antec 120mm (sorry, not 80mm), but it dont move much more air than all the 80mm ones ive seen. Its quiet and has been running non stop for over 1 year. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-129-033&depa=0

yeah i got one, not the choice for quietness
neither is the thermaltake smart case fan II...
...its just barely quieter than a tornado, maybe by about 6-8 db, if that
i got one on my CPU now, and it sounds like someones got a cats balls in a vice :lol:

but i like vantec & thermaltake fans though, theyre pretty solid

(I’ve got an old 98 machine next to me with no case fans and just a bog standard heatsink fan that’s slowed considerably over the past 6 years, you have to have headphones in if you want to listen to anything on low volume, it’s a good job there’s sod all in the way of specs in there :rolleyes: ) - It's not for that machine though ;)

I used my scanner. Here is a scanned image of one of those fans. The connector connects to a standard motherboard fan header but only to 2 pins.

most air = the vantec tornado @ about 90 CFM
(ive heard ppl say they got it to 110 CFM, not sure about that)
but again, not for the faint hearted when it comes to noise

next = thermaltake smart case fan II @ about 75 CFM
and slightly quieter than the tornado

also AFAIK, when you get to the "stealth" or "silent" fans...
youre gonna get about 1/3 of the air flow of the SCF II & tornado...
maybe half, not sure, unless you go 120 mm

Delta is a huge company. I would suspect that those Aerocool fans are made by them.

If you have the option (or the ability to make it so), a bigger fan will outperform a small one any day.
For any given CFM the bigger fan will spin slower, thus quieter.

I would highly recommend you investigate the possibility of using at least 92mm fans...120's would be optimal.

the case has to be made to support that size fan...
so if the case has no 120mm fan holes you will need to drill them and cut the grill out as well (easy to just make a circle with a wholesaw then attach a store boguht grill, or use no grill at all).

If anyone’s interested, I went with the Panaflo 120mm (http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=602079) and it really is quiet, can’t comment on temperatures right now, but it is quite silent, even with a side panel off :)

Nexus Real Silent Case Fans are THE quietest fans with good airflow, bar none. Panaflo is almost as good, but cheaper. Go with whichever you can afford. I have 3 Panaflo's in my case and they are completly inaudible. My ambient temp is 26C, all air cooling. Brushes are used in some electric motors. All it means is that the motor used in the fan is a brushless type.
