a spectrum, zx i think :blink:
i only think it was a zx cos you always hear people say zx spectrum. it had a seperate tape-deck anyway

first pc: pentium 133mhz, 16mb ram, 1gb hard-disc, windows 95.

we thought pc's just couldn't get better when it OC'd to 166 and we got 32mb ram, which in those days cost an arm and a leg

I think I actually might have had an amiga 600hd first, and then a C64.

I shared the Amiga tho', and I still have that in my closet, tho' I can't get it to work.

I had access to plenty of computers at work, and I could play games on them etc, so I didn't bother to get my own until PCs were worth having and were affordable.

My first PC was a 16MHz 386 with 8MB ram I think. It had a 40MB hdd, but that soon became full. Hard drive sizes were fixed on that pc so I had to modify the bios myself to make it accept a 320MB drive.

Actually, there was a motherboard fault which didn't affect what I wanted the pc for so I got the base unit free (they would have been scrapped otherwise) as long as I paid for the monitor and keyboard. I bought the cheapest monitor I could, a 14" single resolution job, but somehow a 15" multi-resolution monitor arrived at my house. I can't understand how that happened, I never made mistakes in the stock room. :whistling

Oooh a timeline, I can do that too.

Amiga 600HD (shared, but now all mine)
C64
Amiga2000 (shared)
P ~233Mhz (shared)
IBM Aptiva 486 33Mhz->100Mhz Overdrive
P3 ~733Mhz (shared)
T-Bird 850@901, 910 and 952 (kinda' shared, tho' I paid for all of it, I let my little bros use it for games)
T-Bird 1100->Athlon Mobile 2500@3200 1.475v in a shuttle SN45Gv2

There are more 'puters I mess around with in this building and elsewhere, but the ones on the list are the ones I've used or am using regularily. I've picked most them apart quite a few times too.

Minimum requirements for Windows 95 was a 386DX CPU. I don't think they were available as slow as 8 MHz.

right. the 286 was 8mhz. dunno if it'd be possible to install Win95 on that, but if you could then it'd prolly be painfully slow.

TRS-80 :blushing:

well before the commodore, not even a floppy, had a tape deck instead, I did get an Atari 5800 ( I believe thats what it was, not the game module, it was a pc) and also 2 commodore 64's. I stayed away from pc's for quite a while after that, and broke into it again with a Packard Bell 500mhz :cool:

Wow. My first computer was the same as VB1234's. I think since he's gotten a bit more into them than me tho'.

The games that you could buy to put into the slot at the top used to cost a fortune, if I remember rightly. I was only allowed one for my Birthday and two for Christmas :dry:

In that case I should have to say my first was an "8 (yes! count them... 8!) game TV entertainment system". Pong, in other words.

I think my first was a texas instruments TI-99 (i think it was a TI-99 cuz i cant seem to find it on the net to refresh my memory, but it was texas instrument cuz i still have the cassette recorder). It had an external tape drive, which was basically a cassette recorder, and when saving to tape, it sounded like a fax machine for about half an hour, lol. and if the tapes werent very good, then it didnt work. had one of those modems that you set the phone in (i never used it tho, cuz i dont think you really could back then, beats me) :)

*edit* I found it on the net and it was definitly the TI-99 heres a link to this thing.oh the memories :) http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/
