Um... well, to backup DVDs? Having to choose between the two, I'd have to say... both.

first I copy the dvd to my HD with DVD Decrypter then I shrink it with DVD Shrink

exactly.

i dont think dvdshrink actually rips. it compresses, or allows re-authoring. it can also automatically burn using nero.

yes it does.

you can copy entire DVDs with DVD Shrink to your HD

I use DVD Shrink. Seems like a good 'un - not too complicated and is pretty stable.

I use SmartRipper for ripping and VirtualDubMod for converting to AVI... So, neither. :P

I use both, depending on how big the DVD is & if I have any dual layer DVDs left, but I usually convert to avi

AnyDVD and CloneDVD is a very good comination...
But other than that DVDShrink, if there are (a few) bad sectors on the disk maybe use DVDDecrpter as it often can still copy the disc.
