Microsoft has a new patent for a hardware compatibility tool . You run from a remote server. Will that game work on your PC? Sad isn't it ? Does n't the game box have all the info you need ? Like Minimum requirments . Quote from the patent link: "The method of claim 10 wherein the capability tool is a software program run from a remote computer via a web browser interface".

Well this may seem sad at first look, but I think it's actually a good idea.

Remember when XP was new?
The best way for non techie types to tell if they needed a system upgrade for the new OS was to run the XP hardware compatibility program on the XP cd.

Saved a lot of people a lot of aggro.

Edit: Don't like the sound of that 'remote computer' thing though.

Good point ! I should say that its an only an application for a patent . Whats going on, first a antispyware tool, then virus removal, now software for dummies. A gentler, kinder Microsoft ? Or someone who sees the writing on the wall . ie: Alternative O/S 's :whistling
