Sup Guys,

Recently I have decided to get an mp3 player. Now I am trying to narrow it down between the Ipod and the Ipod Mini. I have about 2,000 songs right now which take up about 11 gigs of space. I would obviously need the Ipod to fit all my songs on there. But the smaller size appeals to me and I don't think I would ever sit and listen to 72 straight hours of music.

What are your thoughts on getting one over the other?

well an ipod mini has 4 gigs and you said that you have 11 gigs of music so i would go for the regular ipod

depends.
I would have gotten the iPod mini if they weren't sold out and the 20gb i got for only 20dollars more than a mini costs anyway...

really it just depends on whether u need the extra space or not. ;)
the regular apparantly has a longer battery life too.

I have over 600GB of mp3s, so a smaller iPod for convience makes more sense to me. I can't put my entire collection on there, so i'd prefer the smallest model possible.

I'd rather hold off of MP3 players.. read on tomshardware that the new 5.1 mp3 formats are going to be out by the end of this year and the files are going to be useless on current mp3 players O.o

they wont be useless, they just wont be able tp play them in 5.1, the will still play them in nornal stereo.

Lol.. I've seen 5.1 headphones.. they're still 2 speakers.. Don't know how they work though..

As for the Ipod vs Mini.. I'd go for the ipod. But if you're open to other kinds, I'd go for the zen, even though it doesn't look good, it lasts very long...

the 5.1 headphones are really wide. inside they have 2-3 speakers in each headphone.

i was just saying they're kinda akward and expensive...and i'm not sure why u would want 5.1 surround MP3s.

well... 5.1 mp3s could be very cool for compressing the audio streams from DVDs for use in AVI files. except there aren't any hardware AVI players that support 5.1 mp3s, so you'd be limited to using a PC (or maybe Xbox, if Xbox Media Center adds support for it) to get any real advantage out of it. however, the AC3 streams on DVDs are already compressed extremely well... for example, a 2.0 stereo AC3 stream is only a little bigger than a stereo mp3 of similar quality. *shrug*

as far as music goes, there really isn't enough 5.1 music available to get too excited about it. i guess if 5.1 ever becomes THE standard for new music releases, then 5.1 mp3 will be good for that.
