How to Overclock a videocard?

hmmm..... is there a thread or can anyone give me some instructions on how to overclock a video card? :01:

is it an ATI Radeon of Nvideo Geforce?

for radeon's i think you need to download this program: http://rage3d.com/index.php?node=r3dtweak but there might also be others you could use.

for geforce cards you need any driver installed as long as it isn't the built-into-XP one then do:
start>run>regedit>find: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak" then create a new "DWORD VALUE" and call it "coolbits" then give that a value of 3 (by double clicking it).
That enables OCing.

To OC it just right click my comp>properties>settings>advanced>click the tab with the name of your graphics card>click "clock settings">move the bars to choose a speed and click "test" then apply.

better performance on what? what games out there that your 6600gt can't handle? other than for bragging rights on benchmarks, i dont see the need for you to overclock it...but it's up to you.

P.S. if you arent getting the expected performance on your card, it might be your cpu is bottlenecking(word?) it.

well my card is like 43C Full Load... and leadtek had the best overclock performance

like 80-90 degrees is when it will fry.
but less than that you could start getting artifacts so that's the warning that you've gone too far.

yea, i got my midterm a couple weeks back...i got a C+, but because i of a test i didnt take. I went to talk to the teacher to find out that there was another girl there complaining about the same thing. She also didnt take the test. The teacher agreed to take the test out of our scores, and her grade went from an A (93%) to an A (95 %).....

WTF?!?! its still an A, besides, % dont show on report cards.

go to your BIOS and have AGP fast writes turned off, and set your apeture size to 128, instead of 64. Now on Aquamark i got around 50,000 instead of 30,000 :D . Doom III never went below 60 FPS. :1eye:

ok im trying to overclock right now...
2 questions
1)when it tests and it shows flashes of the desktop, are there supposed to be red and green streaks?

2) are the core clock frequency and the memory clock frequency always supposed to be in proportion? for example default settings are 175 and 166, do i always have to keep their difference at 9.

1) that's called artifacting...basically you've overclocked it too far. ;) I used to get that at like 10mhz higher memory clock speed and 100mhz higher core clock speed if i remember right.

2) no it can be whatever propertoin you want...usually the memory will not overclock as far as the core.
