...I got this from a friend of mine.

DOCTORS:

(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171
(Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health Human Services.)

GUNS:

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that is 80 million.)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188.
MATH: .171/.000188 = 909 Statistically, doctors are approximately 900 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand.

Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for the fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.

Yes, but for this to mean anything, we need to know how many accidental gun owners are doctors who are dead.

What was it Homer Simpson said about statistics?

Ah.. that's right.

Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything. 14% of people know that.
:P

first of all.. those accidental death at the hands of doctors #'s are total bullshit.

Also, your gun stats only reports only deaths that are considered 'accidental'. You are hiding behind these classifications when we, the richest country in the world, also have the most gun deaths by far than any other country.

It doesn't matter if the numbers are accurate, it was still funny to read.

Yeah, that would mean that every doctor would have to accidentlly kill a patient like every 5 point something years. No way.

Just so, and well-spotted.

Maybe the relevent numbers will appear anon.
:D

Mogadishu-

Take a pill, please?

You ought not knee-jerk your way through life.

Suppose you learned that the risk of being killed in an automobile accident doubled if you drove to work on the highway instead of driving through the city streets?

What if the odds that you would be killed driving to work every day on the highway were one in a million, while the risk of being killed driving to work on the streets were one in two million?

And what if it took you 15 minutes to get to work on the highway and an hour driving through city traffic?

See what I mean?

Don't be so easy to crank, my good man; it's only me.

Possessive apostrophe, although the inversion may have saved you.

Terribly inelegant, whichever way you look at it.

It's just an average.

I'm sure many doctors haven't killed anyone.

All it takes is a few rotten apples, killing 1000 patients or so a piece.

EDit: I dunno' what I'm saying here, but dammit, I'm right.

Also, does accidental deaths include patients with death threatening conditions that could have possibly been saved but wasn't?

If it doesn't, I daresay I got another reason not to visit america, no offense.

Thinking about the validity of that doctor killing statistic made me keekle.

One suggestion; please remember that 68% of statistics are made up on the spot.
