My car died today. :crying:

It started spluttering and steaming on a main road.
My damn radiator has blown, and my battery is flat.

Had to tow her home, which was a scary experience.

Anyone wanna take a guess at how much this is gonna cost me?
Won't find out til the moro though.

If Uk mechanics are even remotely like French ones, I'd say about 50% more than the real price. ;)

Lets put it this way I wouldn't be making any unneccessary purchases between now and tomorrow, bar perhaps a lottery ticket

sorry bout the car, is this the return of pook pook ?

I thought it was indestructible :crying:

My mates old fiesta broke down on the motorway a week or so ago, it cost £105 to join the RAC (so the tow was free) and £85 to fix this little pipe that had split.

If you need a new radiator that'll cost another £100ish for parts and labour.

Mind, as you can probably tell, I know feck all about motors ... so the above is probably not that indicative.

Lilmiss
01-25-2005, 04:24 PM
I know a guy, who knows a bloke... :shifty:
I'm guessing it'll cost roughly one hundred pound.

And about a tenner for a new battery.

Then it's about £60 to tax her, that needs done before Feb.

And a conversion for the engine, to go from leaded to unleaded.
That should be about £40.

Send me all your money!!! :ermm:

Or just have Sweet and Sour...nothing.

My Grandpops has a battery charger.
But I don't want him touching my car ever, ever again.

A bit behind the times, vid? I've got one of those neural interfaces for my TV now, I just have to think about what channel I want and it turns over automatically.

The downside is that I forgot to turn it off before I went to bed last night and by the morning had subscribed to six porn channels :(

Are you sure it is your radiator and not either the top or bottom hose? If it is a small leak in the radiator, a can of radweld might do the trick for a few months :)

Batteries are lifed items especially in our climate - if you get 5 years out of them you are doing ok.

Cars are a pain the arse when they don't work.

Are you sure it is your radiator and not either the top or bottom hose?

I'm not totally sure.
When I filled up the radiator, the water poured straight out the bottom.
I'm not an expert with cars, but I can safely say she is knackered.

On the plus side, Bo just told me he is coming down 'ere to go to a gig with me next week. Wahoo. :D :w00t:

Say hi to Bo from us all (or eejit if you prefer :) )

Check the large hose that goes from the bottom of the radiator to the engine block. If it is dripping water when you fill from the top it is gubbed. These are easy to replace (just a screwdriver, the two jubilee clips holding the old hose on and a new hose are all that is involved)

If that is all it is, remember to fill up with antifreeze as well as water after the hose is replaced otherwise things will not go well for you the next time it is cold.

I was just about to go and finish the last part of my book in the bath.
Always a bad idea, but I do it anyway.

I once dropped the whole of, "To kill a mockingbird", along with all my side-notes into the bath. The word "fuming" springs to mind.

Never really got into the Pratchet books, but always loved the Death character.
