View Full Version : Fake File Filter?

Hi again.
I have noticed the amount of fake files now on Kazaa is HUGE (I've been away for a while). Are there any tools I can download to filter the crap out of the searches in Kazza??.
I was wondering is K++ 2.4.3 the best version still?. Is there a version now with a built in filter so fakes don't even show up in searches??
Many thanks
Nine.

Use MP3Shield for blocking fake music.

As for built in protection, wait for the next release of K-Lite 2.7. It will have a built-in check for fakes. http://www.my-k-lite.com

Thanks for the replies.
I think I will wait for 2.7 to be fully tried and tested before I look at that. For now I'm going to try Ares as suggested by 4play (Thanks mate). I've installed it and is soo much like the Kazaa G.U.I. Seems to search really fast, quite impressed so far but only used it for an hour. It reminds me of how Kazaa used to be back in the day. I've only got 56k dialup but Ares seems to tollerate my feeble speeds.
Thanks.
Nine.

works for me. Anywayz, its curently set to redirect to http://www.realityradio.org/internationalforums/
K-Lite 2.7 only has forums right now, but maybe later they will have a home page.

There is no way to properly distinguish fakes from the real thing. The hashing method that is used by Kazaa is flawed. Both real files and fakes can show up as a single file, effectively corrupting the resulting file as you download it from the various sources.

i think the new KZhash addresses that issue ;)

thats no shit!

most of the files are just blank music, you can tell if you preview it and it says it like 12, 20 or 30 something minutes long.....

So irritating!

I have some advice for you on how to get around the fake files.

Download a file and hit "find more from user" and if a list of files pop up, that person is probably not a faker. so just download from that one user and your file will not be corrupted by bits of fake files from fakers.

If you are downloading VERY fast (100kb/s) from one person, chances are they are a faker.

If you just do a general search and you see one person with more than one copy of a song (sometimes one person has over 10 versions of one song with varying track lengths and file sizes) then that person is a faker.

And turn your speakers down when you preview the file, there might be loud screeches midway thru the song.

If a user has more than one of the same file, then it is probably a fake file.

What is that exactly?

I think its an extension on sig2dat which includes a md5 hash of the file so each file should have a unique hash and not get corrupted.

Thats what i found. But i dont understand why there are still so many fakes. Shouldnt a good hash reduce the number of fakes?

not if people are getting paid to host thousands of fake, not corupt, files.

klite 2.7 beta 4 version comes with a very intersting new feature.
It's called fake analysis and it's purpose is to avoid downloading fake files.
It scans your search results for known fake file hosts and marks the search results as good (star) or bad (red bug).

Of course it's impossible to detect all fake files, but you will see that it already works with a high accuracy, the accuracy of this feature depends on a up-to-date BannedIPs list.
