I need help here. I see a lot of newspaper advertisements with tons of wireless routers for sale. So I am now thinking of getting rid of the 50ft LAN line draped across the hallway, into the kid's room, from my desk. It is just 8-conductor a wire plugged into the LAN ports between both computers. Works great.

OK, I see that that I can buy a wireless router with 4 ports and an antennae. That seems to be the standard. That's nice. I have 2 computers. Do I have to buy two of those routers? Or is there a "reciever", for the remote desktop, that they don't tell you about? Maybe the wireless routers come with a reciever unit. None of the places tell you what you need.

I don't wan't USB, I'd rather stick with the ethernet plug.

What am I missing here?

You need one router: http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=601

And one wireless network card: http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=36&prid=635

You also need an ethernet modem and 1 ethernet network card for your main (wired) PC (you probably already have this.)

Thank You! Just what I needed to hear.

BestBuy, Circuit City, Comp-USA, etc... Have lots of routers for sale at cheap prices. Verizon is giving them away (as a DSL Modem/router combo) for free to new subscribers (of course no wireless network card is seen or mentioned). None of those stores tell you that you need to buy a wireless network card.

I assumed that atleast one wireless network card came with the router. I didn't see any starter kits yet.

So now, the $100.00 router is not a great price when you have to buy the $59.00 wireless network card, that they barely mention (if at all).

I bought "AT&T 54 Mbps 802.11g Router & reciever" on SALE for $45.99 (including tax), should have costed $117.00 at the regular price.

Works great, especially with games like Unreal Tournament online.
