Whats the best (free)avi converter?

I have searched and searched the forums for one to use and now I am more confussed then ever. :crying:

I need to convert a avi to mpg so I can burn my movie's to dvd.
I dl winavi but it's shareware and has a watermark right across your field of vision, so I got a cracked version and I cant get it to work. I must of done something wrong I have never used cracks b4
I like this one cause its fast 45 min.

I have tried tmpg in the past and it took me 15 hours for one movie...blah.
Then when I went to burn it on dvd it didnt fit.

Is there another prog like winavi that is fast and free?

Also does anyone know of a good joiner besides vdub...for some reason it wont work for me error mp43 (avi) and crashes.

when you convert a movie file it will always take that long.

waaaaaaahooooooo I did it!!! I got it to work. I am now the proud owner of winavi lol :01:

I tried another avi converter that felliz sugested in one of the threads "vso Divx to dvd" it works for avi also...its not as slow as tmpg only takes 2 hours. So I advice it for noobs like myself...its free (no need for a crack) ;) and seems to work fast and easy to use.

Now to plug along for a avi joiner....*sigh* :rolleyes:
