I'm selling my hard drive but it's got files like passwords and stuff which I don't want the new owner to get there hands on.
How do I delete these properly? So far I've formated and defraged.

Kill Disk will make the drive so dead not even the RIAA could get the files back. Its not free but if you have enough money (Wink Wink Hint Hint) You will know you could get the program somehow (Stupid Wink, again)

(Fecking download it)

Boot to a copy of The Ultimate Boot Disc ( you DO have one, right?) and at the A: prompt, type "killmbr 0".

Bye, bye data.

Darik's Boot and Nuke (http://dban.sourceforge.net/)

Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot floppy that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction.
