One the radio at work on a sunday they do a riddle, you text or phone in and win a prize etc.
Well todays really annoyed me (cos I could'nt work it out lol )
I'm very tired, so after the evening news at 10:30pm I wound my clock and set the alarm for 12 noon.......(working on the assumption I fell asleep at 10:30pm) how many hours did I sleep?

If it was a 12 hour alarm. 1.5 hours.
If it was a 24 hour alarm 13.5 hours.
Somehow this is too early for me.

@Hobbes.........Yeah but why? if he went to sleep at 10:30pm and set the alarm for 12 noon?
See I thought 1.5 hours but only because 13.5 was too obvious
@Bob.......I know, it's a riddle, it's always too early for riddles

I don't think you can get 24 hour wind-up clocks.
Therefore I go with the one and a half hour option.
That was my thinking too (although I didn't know I was Hobbes so anything goes really I guess  )

That was the correct answer, whether or not a 24 hour wind up clock is available is arguable

If you are a medium, you should have foresaw the answer.
I think we are going to have to put a claws into riddles to allow for Gemby's train of thought. :)

It is rather unusual to see a comment directed at oneself when one is reading a thread for the first time.
Not to mention that I am expected to explain my rationale behind an answer which I have not submitted.
I'm going to get some apple, it is safer there than out here in the sober world.
And I said that because any clock one has to wind is a 12 hour watch that cannot differentiate am from pm. 12 midnight and 12 noon are the same thing to it. 1 and a half hours sleep.
