Please don't post replies like:

'I use Azureus' or just 'BitTornado'.

We can see what you use if you vote in the poll.

Bitcomet, its fast, small memory footprint, lots of features, and hasn't been banned at my private trackers, Azureus 2.2.0.0 has been banned due to hacked versions showing up that will report anything to the tracker you want, and 2.2.0.2 is still accepted but has been having lots of problems updating properly to trackers, as in people are not getting properly credited with all that they upload... Biggest difference, Bitcomet written in C++ and azureus written in Java(bloated)

No, none. Its the best, all the features of Azureus but using less RAM better features and many other advantages.

I use Azureus because it connects really fast, within secondes I'm downloading @ +100kb/s. Bittornado took minutes before I got the same speed.

Azureus is being a bitch atm here (2 much memory.)

How's the 'connection time' with bitcomit ?

10 Seconds to connect to tracker, another 10 to connect and get 180kb/s. Azureus = Memory Issues, Written in java (thats asking for trouble), poor inbuilt tracker, used with the famous stats hacks.

I use bittornado. I was going to use Azerous but I downloaded it, and it started freezing up. Then I looked real quick to make the port selection random between 10000-60000 and I couldnt find that option.

That's why I like bittornado I has that feature to choose a random port.

Why you ask? I use my college's connection and if I have lots of activity going on in certain ports like the 6800-6900 or whichever the old default bittorrent ports were, they'd find out and use whatever IT program they use to identify the packets and shut off my ethernet port in my room....

So yeah, I like bittornado.

No adwware, no spyware. BitComet rocks all the way. It's written in C++, as mentioned by others before, and uses much less memory than all other BT clients i used b4, (i never used azureus though).

Also support a lot of languages, including chinese, actually, it's probably written by a chinese guy.
And it gives you a lot of good torrent sites, most of which unfurtunately have been closed or are very slow due to excesive use.

Though i don't fancy the transfer of all my torrents..........No need to do that.

Simply install the new client, but set it to use a different range of ports and set the max upload rate for each client in proportion to the number of torrents on each one. As you remove torrents from the old client you can adjust the upload rate to match.

ABC can also download parts of a torrent....

When the torrent is running, double click it, go to the File Info tab and you can right click on files to choose the priority for downlad (first, normal, never etc)...

From memory, this is in ABC 3 and beyond....

ABC can also download parts of a torrent....

When the torrent is running, double click it, go to the File Info tab and you can right click on files to choose the priority for downlad (first, normal, never etc)...

From memory, this is in ABC 3 and beyond....

Awesome! Thanks for the info! :D

On BitComet, I found this posted on another forum: http://slyck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9923

Quote:
BitComet was banned from KickAssAnime because of the following reason:

"ok here is exactly why. BitComet reports false data to the tracker and to other peers. it reports that it is sending out way more data to peers than it actually is. so by banning it, and forcing the leechers to use clients that dont cheat, we get a healthier torrent. because (not sure if everyone knows) a healthy torrent works on the rewards system most of the time. meaning its like "ok ill send you a piece of this torrent, then you tell me when you sent it to someone else, and ill send you another." Bitcomet, as soon as it recieves a piece, weither it sends or not, reports back to the client that it recieved it from that it sent it to another peer. by removing the leechy client by nature, the torrent gets healthier, and the people who use real clients, and try to go 1:1 on the torrents get the complete torrent faster. once again if you want to complain to me about the decision to ban bitcomet, email me @ [removed email address] i would be happy to rant back."

So users of BitComet are all leachers, or is there a setting that can be turned off?

I use MLdonkey at http://mldonkey.berlios.de/

"MLdonkey is a powerful P2P application for accessing the Edonkey2000 network as well as a few others like FastTrack, Bittorrent and Gnutella2.
The opensource MLdonkey p2p client is mainly being developed for Linux/Unix, but is also compiled and running on Windows and even MacOS X."

MLdonkey can be controlled from a GUI, browser interface or the commandline.

Most of the GUI interface is for the Edonkey2000 network but bittorrent commands to start using a torrent file etc can be entered in the MLdonkey browser interface.

I can access MLdonkey from my browser at work to review download/upload status, kick off new downloads etc.

It works well for me.

I don't think that's what was meant to be implied....but the data it reports is inacurate, which I think is the bottom line as to why bitcomet is often banned.

BitComet 0.59, as it now respects 'private' key in torrents (and as such is not banned anymore, anywhere TMK) and is much lighter on my resources than previous versions, or any javabloat clients (love the C++). ;-)

Strange that BitLord isn't on the list of clients for the pollFrom what I've been reading here and there BitLord contains spyware, whereas BitComet doesn't. In any case, BitComet was first, BitLord is a rip-off that uses BitComet code and then adds their own links and whatnot.

Check screenshots on their site. It's the same app, except bloated and advertised everywhere. :frusty:

GepperRankins
07-24-2005, 01:00 PM
i used to use torrentstorm but the upload limit just didn't work so i'd often find it uploading at the maximum possible 30KBps, meaning i couldn't download or use the internet for anything else as upload effects download on my adsl.

i now use azureus, the limits work better but even though i have a gig of RAM, azureus doesn't think there's enough room to run a game at the same time

testos
07-24-2005, 03:01 PM
bitcomet is easyer and better in my opinion.
u need just to set up the connections correctly. and get a good port and set your upload limit not too high, and you will get good speeds.
my connection 2MBiT (260kbps) and with torrents i get every time a minimum of 100kbps :D that means my downloads are fast... with azureus, i had problems, needed java, alot of ram and patience. bitcomet is the sweetest client ever!

Eclectic_Loner

What's wrong with azureus' latest version? I'm new to using these clients.

How do I use the advanced features of azureus? What are they? Other than changing the ports by adding "1" (based on the guide in this forum on how to speed up BT) there doesn't seem to be any advanced feature but then again I have no idea about these things usually

I'm using Azureus, Bittornado has never worked properly on this machine.

Anyhow, I prefer azureus 'cos it gives me more control, it seems like, tho' it screwed up my OS once, on a very hot day when I had lots and lots of torrents running at the same time. NB overheat from all the transfers, I think.

None of the clients I have used have any spyware (bittornado, azureus, abc..etc) They basicallly have more functions and are easier to track your torrents than the basic bittorrent.

BitComet definatly does not have spyware!! I honestly dont know where people got that from! I've had it for a while now and its the best BT client i've ever used! Fast and reliable! And it doesnt suck memory at all! The downside of course with all BitTorrent clients is the fact that it slows down your browsing and what not. Unless you have a NetLimiter.
