5.1 sound with burnt movies?

Hi,

Is there a way I can add 5.1 sound to a burnt movie on a DVD?
I use VirtualDub to extract the audio out of the video file, which is in .wav format.
Then I use TMPGEnc to create a MPEG format video file.

The video looks alright when played on the DVD player, but I’m not sure if I can add that 5.1 effect to the audio.

BTW I only download DVD-rip movies….!

You will have to convert the audio to 5.1 if the source file is stereo, but if it's a file with 5.1 there's a guide at www.videohelp.com

Just Demux the ac3 audio (you may need to use VirtualDubMod)

Then just insert the ac3 at the DVD authoring stage

Yes the audio is in stereo format, now how do i convert it to 5.1? Any software i could use?

I use Sony Vegas v5 (which can do it) for video editing and Sony DVD Architect v2 (which can also do it) to author DVDs. There are likely other packages that can convert but I stopped searching after finding those two.

Thanks, but I have found a guide at videohelp on converting .wav to .ac3..looks simple.
