Say, for arguments sake I had a bottle of whiskey that has been opened in my cuboard for a year or so is it still safe to drink?

Edit: Pissed.

it gets stronger as it ages, as long as it dosen't have a sludge at the bottom it should be ok

I kinda' thought you were asking after you'd drunk it already. What with your first post (sans edit).

It would have made the drunken version of myself proud.

The best malts are all 10 years plus old and 25 year old whiskey is seriously expensive.

The biggest problem would be evaporation if the bottle has been opened - possibly leaving it a bit sludgy at the bottom, this would spoil it a bit tastewise too. If it looks clear and there are no "bits" it is good to drink.

If it hasn't been opened then it will outlast you.

It should have a use by date. Then you could get it cheaper as it gets close to the date.

Remember Jonno. Kilmarnock is the home of Johnny Walkers. If you drink that then you are helping to pay my council taxes. If you believe that then you have already drunk some.
