Will someone please recommend a program like this one (http://www.mvpcinfo.com/PCinfo/intro.htm) that will tell me everything I ever wanted to know about the specs of my pc but for free.

How about a program that checks your running processes and tells you what they are...

Is this some leet computer joke.

All this information for XP is in a system information file.

Start-all programs-accessories-system tools-system information?

My rule of thumb is this. If someones asks a computer question I can answer, then it must be a very obvious joke to everyone but me.

Yes, I think xp needs some form of program that does that.

We could call it a "task manager"

System Info just provides basic information. The program that Harsh recommended that I use was just what I was looking for. It provides many more details.

The task manager doesn't explain what the processes are. I guess I could google them one by one but that would take a while. I guess there isn't a program that can tell you what they are and what they are doing....

Why do you need a program when
BlackViper's site (www.blackviper.com) has all the info you need.
A very comprehensive list of processes along with the programs that depend on them.
There are even three reg files that will configure your processes into different configurations depending on your use/needs.

You doan need no stickin program.....*
