Hard Drive Repair Software.

First HD is out of warranty. Now with that out of the way, I have a 80G Maxtor HD that has gone bad. I have used Maxtor's Powermax and it says that it is okay, but the os (win xp pro sp2) can not read the data without using data recovery software. Has anyone used HD repair software with any succses and if so what software did you use.


OS: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Processor: 1.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
Mem: 128 Megabytes (Needs To Be 2G but rambus is to not cheap)
HD: 40.01G WD (WDC WD400BB-53AUA1 [Hard drive] (40.02 GB) drive 0, s/n WD-WMA6R2249957, rev 18.20D18, SMART Status: Healthy)

The one time I needed it , did n't work. Some are free to try but you pay to recover. People say Ontrack is good. Is it your slave or master?

If maxtor PowerMax software reports the drive as good after the 'complete' test then the drive is mechanically fine. You just have data corruption. Have you tried Checkdisk?

I should of saw that! :) Or diskdoctor from norton, Is what I would try too. I think there's a free trial out there. If all else fails format the slave ,and you'll know for sure .

I have already tried both and no go. I already have the data that I need but would love to get the 80G HD back. I used GetDataBack at http://www.runtime.org/gdb.htm and it did a great job.
