I thought Vanilla Sky's twist sucked. It wasn't surprising nor gratifying and was too late seeing that The Sixth Sense already came out.

Best movie plot twist? Nah, just a twist is all.

That's an ending not a plot twist..well maybe it is in context of watching the movie again.

For example, someone mentioned Arlington Road. That had a bad ending but not plot twist.

I'm siding to agree.

Lots of movies have bad endings that are supposed to be great plot twists. Invariably they ignore or distort what we have learnt about the characters in order to totally "shock" us.

If anyone watched Robot Chicken (http://www.tvtome.com/RobotChicken/) this week that had a great sketch about movie plot twists.

The original is better tho'. And the sixth sense was two years late compared to the original, if we are going to be picky about it.

I think Saw can go with the other contrived plot twist movies like Scream/Sixth Sense/Arlington Road and hang their collective heads in shame.

Definitely Vertigo and

Psycho (The "star" of the movie dies 30 minutes in, everyone knows this now so it's not much of a twist, but 40 years ago it was marketed brilliantly (in those days people came into the cinema at any time regardless of what part of the movie was playing and just stayed until they were at the part where they came in) with Psycho people queued outside the cinema and were only allowed to enter at the start, people were also instructed not to give away the twist by Hitchcock himself)

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that M. Night Shamalayan's movies are considered to be typical examples of movies with plot twists. Lookie here for instance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plot_twist).

That means "The Sixth Sense", among others.

I'd say plot twists like those in "The Sixth Sense" and "Vanilla Sky" are better, because they don't only alter the expected final outcome of the story, but they also reflect back on the rest of the story, changing it from start to finish.

The plot goes on from start to finish, and there's nothing that says a plot twist cannot take place near the end.

The plot twist (if it can even be called that) in "From Dusk till Dawn" is more a matter of a radical change in the plot, rather than something that alters the our view of the entire previous plot, which makes it fairly one-dimensional compared to more intricate works.

"Haute Tension"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338095/
I don't think it's best but IMO it is at least as good as SAW. Not as a movie but the ending (the plot twist in the ending) is shocking.
Also "Oceans Eleven". Maybe many would disagree but the whole movie you think that you know what is going on and how are they going to steal the money and in the end you understand that you didnt know a shit :)
"Abre los ojos" (the original Vanilla Sky) is also great. It looks much more real than the remake.
Also IMO "The Butterfly Effect" didn't have a plot twist. I love that movie but I wasn't surprised at any point of the story.

Both Saw 1 and Saw 2 had plot twists/suprises at the end though, sorta.
At the end of Saw 1, you find out that Zepp was a player in Jigsaw's "game" also. And then the "dead" body in the middle of the room (Jigsaw) got up and walked away.
In Saw 2, you find out that everything that was shown happened a long time ago, and was recorded. The cop's son turned up in a "safe" place just as Jigsaw had promised, in the safe. All the cop had to do was sit there and talk to him, nothing else.
