Then Cd-Roms >> 700mb

Hard Drives >> a few mbs to 1 gb - 200gbs now!

Flash Memory >> 16mb - 516mb

Dvd >> 4gbs or was it 3.7gbs?

dvd are 4.7 gb.

I reckon next programmers will begin to optimize there code again and we will only need 200 gb hdd's

But in truth we are probably looking at blue lasers which mean 100gb on one dvd disc.

since hdd are magnetic and the limit of data storage will soon be reached we will probably find ourselves in the situation of a dvd holding more information then your average hdd. :o

yes, true. Because Blu-Ray has a much smaller wavelength than red so with a smaller wavelength less of a disc is scanned at once causing in theory more space. This is already out I believe it is just not widely spread in the public domain.

optical drives are gonna change from using red laser light to blue laser light soon. this will mean that capacity of the data mediums will rise

No, an optical drive is one that uses a laser, ie. CD/DVD drives

not too sure if i'm mistaken , but it think it's double layered and double sided to give a total of 4 sides

works to about 18gb per DVD ...

but since it's shifting into blue lazer ( dun expect this is commercially the near future tho .. )
it's gonna work out to (maybe) abt 400gb per DVD ? ( and you tot a 250 gb HDD was amazing ?)
based on the above post that each disc is 100gb and it can be double layered and double sided ...

what 400gbs a dvd drive! then there will be no use for hard drives!
