What?

Harry Potter is fantastic!
The first books are aimed at the young, but the writing style and language progresses with Harry. He has wet dreams in Goblet of Fire, ffs.
Anything that forces kids to read is a good thing.

Next you will be picking on Lemony Snickett.

Personally I don't enjoy them, but my kids do and anything that entertains them for a few moments is a blessing.

One good thing I love about Harry Potter is it sends "certain" religious nutters over the edge...and anything that makes these head cases froth at the mouth should be encouraged

As most Christians already know, the Harry Potter book series is the most evil and dangerous set of books to be released this century. "The Potter series is worse than pornography. The books are even more dangerous than the Satanic Bible," reports Pastor Deacon Fred, "At least with the Satanic Bible, young people know that the book was written by Satan. The Devil just changed his name to J.K. Rowling this time." The release of the fifth book in the Harry Potter series has been delayed because Christians have been praying to God that he will send angels to scramble Satan's brain and force him to admit Rowling's spent body to a mental hospital so that the whole series will never be completed.

To celebrate the delayed release of the fifth Harry Potter book and the post September 11th return to American Christian values, The Truly Saved® all across America are calling upon the name of Jesus this Halloween to decrease the number of Harry Potter books currently circulating in America by at least 70%. "We're giving True Christian® school children the Biblical authority to remove these evil books from their school libraries, bookstores, homes, grocery stores, and anywhere they find them," said Pastor Deacon Fred. "All they need to say is, Jesus wants me to take this book! Friends, let's help this great Country return to it's True Christian® roots. Wont' you please set up a Holy Ghost book fire at your local church on Satan's Birthday this Halloween? Thank you."source, this is not a joke (http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news1002/bookburning.html)

I think that harry potter is unoriginal shite.

But the morons responsible for posting that stuff on the internet should go into the bonfire before that book does. Do they know who else enjoyed burning the occasional book they didn't like? The nazis, thats who.

Bloody fascists/nazis/arseholes the lot of them.

Well, if they mean it, but that site is just too OTT to be true.

The only way we can win the war on terrorism, folks, is to destroy the terror of liberalism and evil that exists inside this Christian Nation. It starts with the children. It starts at home. It might be something as simple as organizing a Harry Potter book burning, or placing your child's hands on a hot stove if you catch them masturbating. It could even be a simple gesture, like shipping your 11-year-old son off to military school, or cutting off part of your daughter's ear for listening to N'Sync. We've got to get back to God, folks! We've got to do it fast, and we don't have time to worry about nonsense like "human rights violations!" Jesus, Please allow us to legally do what you tell us to do in that precious Book your Daddy wrote!

I bet white cotton sheets are coming back into fashion in the 'Bible Belt'. I sometimes wonder what 'masterpiece' of engineering, math or invention was destroyed by these fanatics. :(

I do honestly think that the site is a deliberate exageration but it is however sadly a reflection of collective extremisms that have actually happened.

My link "this is no joke" is not an affirmation that the site linked is credable but that it is in fact..not funny..because it is happening.
The Potter book burnings and the hate sites/statements are genuine things that go on. Jerry Falwell made a statement just after the 9/11 twin towers attack "God allowed America to be attacked because we tolerate fornictors, homosexuals and feminists"

Edit:

If you think that such extremisms could not possibly exist just look at nations that still stone people to death for adultery and sometimes even lesser "sin crimes", or islamic laws that require a thief loses a hand.

They are good kids books - the films are beautifully crafted. The writing style is a little too bogged down sometimes for my taste though.

As a wise Jew, back in the early 1930s, replied when asked why he was leaving Germany "they are burning books - people usually follow the books"

Mainstream Christianity does not have a problem with Harry Potter - just the ones living on the edge.

I was referring to that particular site, it was just a bit too crazy to be real.

Those links are the real deal tho', and that's fecking scary.
Their talk of "spiritual bondage" and the horrors of magic does my head in.

Take a visit to our Mall any Saturday and you will realise that 'up here' you have to get stoned before commiting adultery. No one was using the ladies toilets until they took down the sign 'No dogs allowed'. :)

I know that, however it is entirely possible that the authors do actually believe what they are writing even if it's just "thinking out loud".

I believe that paedophiles should have their genitals burned off with a blow lamp... that doesn't mean I actually think it acceptable for anyone to actually do it... if that makes sense

I think the link is a close relative of the Truechristian.com site I posted a whille back. A spoof set up using the most insane ideas from the more extreme christian groups.

Vidcc is right though, some did do a book burning thing.
