I wanna rip a scene out of South Park. Unfortinatly Neros exporting works all day and when the cut files ripped and encoded it's horrably large. I want to encode the file to .wmv or Divx. What video encoding program should I use? Preferably open-source and easy to use.

Use Virtualdub for DivX encoding. Don't think it's open-source but it's free anyway.

Well, I don't know what you mean by "open source", (do you mean free?)...
But for DivX, I use Dr.DivX, it's not free but crackable
and it has the best quality I've seen, and its extremly easy to use.
I think I used Virtualdub once and it was too dificult and even make really
bad quality videos, but I might be wrong.
Anyway, Dr.DivX does it great!

In Virtualdub the quality can be as good as you like, it depends on how you configure the DivX codec. So if you don't know what you're doing, you'll make shit movies.

You can get a bitrate calculator that'll tell you the best bitrate to set the encoding to given the length of the video and the approximate size you want it to be when it's encoded.

"Open-source" means that the source code of the software is freely available.

Allright I used VirtualDub which kinda worked. But encoding videos really fucking hard. :( So many options that I have no clue what they do and so easy to improperly encode video. I dont see how anyone does it properly.

It's not too difficult when you get the hang of it. Get a decent bitrate calculator and you'll be fine.

Also remember to encode the audio as mp3 as well as video to DivX to get the best compression.
