Miranda is a v.good portable client
it uses very little resourses and has a large amount of plugins (eg; avatar support)

dMSN is also great
is highly customizable
u can also see when people are about to talk to you (somthin u cant do with MSN7+ stuffplug)

never liked any of them that I've used.
none of them seem to support all the features of all the IM programs.

I've since decided to begin a campaign to force all my friends to use only MSN :D

i would just test them all out, and see which u like best.

In my opinion, i like gaim :01:

but gaim screws up aim text sizes (it's really AIM's fault, but still..) doesn't do direct-connection properly, etc.

MSN dont seem to make a sound when people are messaging u ingame
i think nudge works but 75% of em have disabled it on my list

thats why i use miranda
low ram usage
u can hear the ding ingame

i guess at the end it all bores down to personal preference

Very light-weight. Skinnable, however nothing or no one has really designed anything for it as of yet. Freeware. Spy/adware free.

Trillian is a resource hog. Use GAIM.

Miranda is much more lighter and i see this as a good thing (i tested IM a min ago)
i dont see why MSN7 needs about 50+MB of ram. seems abit over kill for an instant messenger

call me an old man
but i hate all the flashy theme stuff like Integrity & Trill has

Note: i changed the window name from "Miranda IM" to "M0n£y IM"
so dont let it confuse ya

hmm.....
looks like its a toss-up between Miranda and Integrity
due to the lightness of em
(was GAIM one of the light ones? i cant be fkd to read back :P )
keep in mind, for those of you who visit the hardware section may know,
i downgraded my CPU & RAM for the time being
so i have to be slightly resource conscious now :P

Integrety after sign in = 17MB ram
Miranda after sign in = 7MB ram

http://www.miranda-im.org/

havent tested but GAIM installer was like 6.4MB
were as Mirandas was 762kb
and IMs was 3.8MB

I feel your pain. Sharing one system can be a bit of a nuisance. My son and I used to share one system. I was content with merely Windows Messenger. He wanted Yahoo and AIM and such (used instant messaging much more frequently than I).

I used to utilize this one after Trillian went through their difficulties with the Yahoo and AIM client connections. Integrity just seemed much simpler to utilize and maintain. In addition, it was free and also of any included malwares. Why bother with cracking when you do not need to? But hell, if Miranda is only weighing in at 7MB, then I think it is definitely worth a looksee. :D

...MSN7 needs about 50+MB of ram.... I've never seen it go over 19MB. Sounds like a memory leak to me.

nah not sharing a system, just one of my bros is on AOL
which is goofy, cause hes already gotten broadband,
but he still uses all his old AOL screen names & mail & etc etc
he's 25 miles away and i cant always remember his phone # :P

i tried miranda and integrity
yeah miranda is a HELL of a lot lighter, just not as fancy with the GUI,
and i had to d/l a plugin for the YAHOO! messenger
but heres the real kicker...after all this you guys are gonna LOVE this....
i cant remember my AIM & MSN info
i had em written down somewhere.....
