Looks like one we need too. A story here :

http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-5632148.html

The Mozilla Foundation issued a patch for a major security flaw in its Firefox browser on Wednesday and advised people to update their software.

Itled 1.0.2 yesterday and ow I have both 1.01 and 1.0.2 in my list of installed software

Same happened when I updated 1.0 to 1.0.1

Isn't it supposed to overwrite the previous installations?

How many Firefox's do you really need.

If you update Firefox on top of an old version, the new one will be installed but in the add/remove the old one also is listed. You can remove the listing of the old one. If you don't want listing of 2 versions, you'll have to do a clean uninstall and after that, install the version you would like to use.
This issue is known (read it somwehre on the Mozilla pages).

How many Firefoxes do you need for what? To change a lightbulb?

Just 1, but you'll need an extension to do it. It's probably called 'AddBulb'. :D

You're welcome peat. :) Glad someone found that linky useful.

I had both FF 1.01 and 1.02 sitting in my add/remove programs too.
Didn't know it until I read this thread, then went and checked.
Funny I should post a link to the solution before it even happened, huh?

Next time I won't be using FF's updater. The old way is still the best by the looks of things.

When I update I uninstall FF but don't touch my profile, then Install the new version. Never had a problem with multiple versions being listed in add/remove programs and of course all settings and bookmarks, extensions etc. are left untouched. That's the best way to do it.

Thats probably the best way davec8, welcome to the forum by the way. :)

I'm too anal to leave double entries in add/remove tho ! :D

Should explain that I remove the old versions thru add/remove and just reinstall .Thats if the muliple entries bother you. Same with T bird e-mail .
