Looks like CCleaner's took more than you expected. Luckily I fixed a friend's PC who had the same symptom. :)

That'll be a font problem - Check your Fonts folder in the Control Panel and you'll likely find it empty. Install a font from somewhere and set everything to it. Best way is to either look at a font site (as best as you can) or get a friend to copy the files from his Fonts folder.

EDIT: Only just read the second post. Hmm, interesting. Either way, check the Fonts folder just in case.

Wow.. that's seriously messed up.

CCleaner probably deleted a link between your desktop and the proper font, so Windows defaulted to the next typeface in the Fonts directory?
Probably one of the Symbol fonts, by the look of it.

That's just a guess, anyway.
Just as well a couple of reboots straightened it all out.

I've always been a bit suspicious about those 'one click cleans everything' programs.
I used to use and recommend Cleanup! myself, but this kind of thing happens too much for my liking.

Edit: Your musics gone? Damn that sucks. That's just the sort of thing I'm talking about. A freind of mine lost over 2GB of downloads with "just one click". :(

Ouch... man, that's gotta hurt.

I hope you aren't one of the guys on this forum who's hobby is filling 250GB drives...

The only thing that *should* cause such a mass deletion would be folders with names containing the words "temporary", "temp" or maybe even "tmp".

Sounds unlikely, but that's how my mate (see edit to previous post) lost his files. His download folder was called "Download Temp".
His cleanup util just saw the word temp in the folder name and went into a deleting frenzy.

Sorry it happened to you too dude. :(

Well, it's a long shot, but you could try to restore your files with a data retrieval program.
I haven't any experience there, so I can't say what's good and what's not.
I'm sure somebody else can recommend a decent app though.

What's done is done huh?

Fair enough... although personally I'd try it at least once.
If you only got 10% of your stuff back, it'd still be better than nothing.

Try a system restore to a point before you used CC, one never knows. Bearing in mind that delete doesn't actually delete the files, just allows the system to over-write that particular area on the hdd. So if you haven't written any other data to that part then you may still have them.
