Quickest way? DVD to 700MB

What's the quickest way to rip a DVD into a tidy 700MB avi? I'm on someone else’s laptop and don't want to d/l a load of progs or anything huge :unsure:

use a program like dvd decripter, it is freeware

last i remember, dvd decrypter doesnt encode to .avi :blink:
and as for a "quick, neat" program.....
i dont know how far i trust those "one-click" apps
my best results came from Gordian Knot,
and you have to run it through a few apps
as well as needing the xvid codec installed (but that comes with GK)
i wouldnt waste my time on divx for avi,
because xvid blows it away in quality IMO,
and its open source, hence totally free, no need to upgrade to "pro" :)
