Daemon Tools - Very low memory usage for a program that cracks and bypasses copy protection on the fly.
Cool Beans System Info - Great little program for showing ram, cpu and bandwidth useage,

Sygate personal FW - I use and recommend version 5.5 build 2516. Later builds can throw annoying errors on system shutdown/reboot. On my system they do anyway.

avast! Home Edition AV - is the lightest on resources in my experience. Virus signatures are updated on a near daily basis and it's free.

Ya hate to see some one loose data , but I use this program and installed on 5 other computers . Never had a problem ,and I never back up ! But he must have other issues (Linkin Park). I mean with just default settings you should be fine , he may have farted around with the settings . ;)

I posted about sygate fucking my P.C up, the reboots ect. I was well gutted when I had to change to another firewall. I might try an early build...see if thats any better.

A great AV for resourses is Norton AV lol...honest...

They are the same ones that made M$ built in firewall.

-Dr. Web is a good anti-virus and low on resources.
-CyberScrub Privacy Suite
-RegSupreme Pro
-Pc Bug Doctor
-PowerArchiver
-Sygate Personal firewall pro---was a long time user of ZoneAlarm
-Protowall

Just to name a few....lol
