LOS ANGELES -- A law firm partner says famed attorney Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. has died.

Cochran's most-noted case was his defense of O.J. Simpson when the former football star and actor was accused of murdering his wife. Simpson was found not guilty.

His family says Cochran died Tuesday of a brain tumor at his home in Los Angeles.

A statement from the family said, "Certainly Johnnie's career will be noted as one marked by celebrity cases and clientele. But he and his family were most proud of the work he did on behalf of those in the community."

Cochran's catch phrase in the Simpson trial, "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit," would be quoted and parodied for years afterward. Simpson was found not guilty of the 1994 killings of his wife and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Cochran also represented Michael Jackson in his 1993 child molestation case.

But Cochran also handled cases that weren't high-profile, especially those involving police brutality. He represented Abner Louima, the Haitian immigrant tortured by New York City police.

The Los Angeles Times reports on its Web site that Cochran, his family and colleagues were secretive about his illness to protect the attorney's privacy as well as his law practice. But the report said Cochran confirmed in a September 2004 interview with The Times that he was being treated by a neurosurgeon.

He was 67 years old.

RIP one of the most contraversial high-profile lawyers of our time.

My guess is that like all lawyers (hopefully) he'll be in hell. Then again, he'll probably be hired as Lucifer's personal lawyer now

Always thought he was a low-baller, but hey, he was a lawyer; expectations weren't too high.

He'll be missed.

i was just wondering....
did Cochran ever represent any alleged WHITE criminals?
(no, not someone accused of being white,
a white man or woman accused of a crime) :P
or any Hisapncs for that matter?

on a side note:
anyone know why lawyers wear neckties?

to keep the foreskin down :P

Some folks are truly idiots and only know of popular cases.....like Johnnie only tried 2 cases in his life.

Johnnie has tried many cases (some high-profile) where the victims were poor.

STFU!! I thought it was rather funny.

The initial statement was dipshitted anyway and you are hawking on me. (it wasn't that serious either but....maybe not)

You don't have analyze his career to know he represented Abner Louima, the Haitian immigrant sodomized with a broken broomstick by two New York City policemen.

Sorry dude, the person in question is an idiot regardless of the statement.

Besides that, I don't give a shit of what has been proven.

i hoped that UKResident would say he was in fact dissatisfied with o-jay's trial, so i could suggest that he write a letter of complaint to his representatives in u.s. congress.

also: poor manners to refer to somebody as a murderer after they've been tried and found innocent of the charges, and to call somebody a child molester while they've been accused and their trial is not yet finished. if i were ever to be accused of sumfin', i'd much prefer to have it decided by a judge & jury (AND to have a lawyer of johnnie cochran's caliber at my table) than by the media or so-called public opinion. :P
