I bought an iPod, installed iTunes and everything. Whenever I plug the iPod into my USB port, it shows up in My Computer as Removable Disk G:, but iTunes won't recognize it. When I click on Edit > Prefrences > iPod, it says "No iPod connected."

This is really frustrating. :frusty:

Also, if I drag MP3's into Removable Disk G:, it shows up there, but the songs won't show up when I look in my iPod.

iTunes is crap.
and the iPod wont recognise music just by putting it onto the ipod, some other files need to be updated. that's what itunes does.

if you use winamp you can get this extension: http://www.harrison-fisher.co.uk/mlipod/index.php?page=home

I installed the plug in, but after I open the Winamp Library, iPod isn't listed under Devices. :(

OK, one person can take only so much frustration.

I bought a Sandisk 1GB MP3 player in the past. All I did was plug it in, thats it. I would go to My Computer, Removable Storage, drag MP3's, and play them, thats it. I didn't have to install a bunch of stupid shit like iTunes or anything.

Wow am I annoyed right now. I un-installed everything, and packed up the iPod Mini, I'm going to get my $200 tomorrow. What a waste of time.

iPod doesn't cooperate with USB. When i first got the iPod i had the same problem, but then i got a firewire PCI and it fixed all my problems. i reccomend a 1890600 AFW-4300

Well after much frustration, I took it back today and got my money back. Oh well, I'm going to look around for MP3 players that don't require any software at all.

Maybe you should have got a Mac. I bet the iPOS works fine with that. ;)

Yeah I tried everything. I spent like 2 hours re-installing the software, resetting the iPod, changing USB ports, I literally tried everything. I did some reading at the www.ipodlounge.com forums, and found a TON of people with the same exact problem, and found no easy solution. Yeah it's too late now, already returned it.

EDIT: Yes it was charging while plugged in, no I don't want to buy a Mac. :P

I read that USB 1.0 doesnt work with Ipod and that you need USB 2.0 or firewire.

Do you know which USB you have?

I'm pretty sure its USB 2.0, I just don't get it. My PC recognized the iPod, gave it a drive letter and everything, but iTunes wouldn't pick it up, or the Winamp plug-in for that matter.

maybe there was something wrong with the Ipod? Try one of your friends Ipod on your PC :)
