What have you tried so far?

Have you run the Network setup wizard on both PCs?

Is the Workgroup name of both computers the same?

What have you tried so far?

Have you run the Network setup wizard on both PCs?

Is the Workgroup name of both computers the same?

answer to both the questions is YES.

On my second PC (wireless internet) I have created a network by using Network wizard, Settings are exactly as below:

SELECT A CONNECTION METHOD:
- This computer connects to the internet through a residential gateway or through another computer on my network (This settings is same on both computers)

GIVE THIS COMPUTER A DESCRIPTION AND NAME:
(For second PC with wireless internet connection)
Computer description: GamePC
Computer name: GAMMINGPC

(For first PC which is connected via router--->ADSL modem)
Computer description: MainPC
Computer name: MAINCOMPUTER

NAME YOUR NETWORK:
- Workgroup name: MSHOME (This setting is same for both computers)

FILE AND PRINTER SHARING:
- Turn on file and printer sharing (This setting is same for both computers)

And finally I rebooted both computers once the network setup wizard was done.

Now after reboot, I can see on my first computer (MainPC) that a network folder is created when i click on "My network Places"
But when I check "My Network Places" on second PC (Wireless interent) then i don't see any folder or anything...its blank.

I can't file share but can share internet.....

Guys if you remember I had the same problem a while back and everything I had done was as it should be. In fact, a member of this forum actually came to my house to check it out himself, and concluded by all accounts it should be working too.

My setup was near enough the same as sameer0807's. 2 PC's both connected to same ADSL Modem (Linksys WAG54G) & all workgroups and logon name's were the same.

I spent the best part of a month trying to get this to work and XP just wasn't having any of it. Finally, a good friend of mine recommended RADMIN to me and it performs above and beyond what I ask of it. It's very similar to Laplink (if anyone used that app).

In any case, I am now able to FTP, TELNET and gain full control over the other PC with no trouble whatsoever.

If I use it to connect to another PC on, say the Internet for example I am limited to my upload bandwidth. With a LAN, I am limited to speeds set by the CAT-5 cable :D
I've already transferred a couple of GB's in minutes.

Again, if anyone is after the link for this app, pm me with your email address and I'll send you a link.

Word of warning though.

As it is a REMOTE ADMIN APPLICATION, some AV's WILL detect this program / and or files associated with it as being a virus/trojan which although partially correct, is still safe. This is a legitimate tool. For Symantec's Security Response on this click on this link... http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/remacc.radmin.html

Remacc.Radmin is a component of the remote control software, Remote Administrator.

Remote Administrator is a legitimate remote administration software. However, some of its components can be used for malicious purposes, as it allows a hacker to control a user's computer. Therefore, Remacc.Radmin may constitute a security threat.

Sorry, just to add... IF your AV does pick up componants of RADMIN, don't quarantine them or have them removed or your program will of course not function.

Set your AV to excude these as I have. Symantec have this feature as I'm sure other AV's will have too.

Networking can be a bit of a nightmare at times, everything seems to be in place and working but it just wont let you share the folders or connection, that sounds like a neat app that samurai has I would have loved something like that insteadof xps own, I just gave up in the end and signed up for wanadoos wireless and talk (http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/time/talk.htm) which gave me an extra phoneline and wireless all round the house, I simply put the disc in each puter and its sorted, I know I could have just bought a wireless and ethernet router but I reckon if I have the service running a few month they wont be asking for the router back ;)

What about firewalls? Are there any firewalls on either or both of these computers? If so then you need to configure them to allow access or turn them off.

Yeah Zone alarm did'nt like me setting up networking so I had both turned off during set up, when I rebooted my pc za picked up the connection and I granted it permission so knocking your firewall off is advisable. When I was trying using my own hardware to set up wireless networking I run a test using the windows run box, u type in command then in then msdos box type ipconfig which should give you your i.p address xxx.xxx.xx.xx, do the same on the other pc then in the msdos box again type in ping xxx.xxx.xx.xx (the x's being the i.p address of the pc you want to communicate with, if no packets get sent then you can't connect to the pc at which point I fell flat on my arse :blushing: but it could help to narrow down your troubleshooting.

Nothing man. Just seemed like a given in these circumstances. It's like suggesting "have you tried boiling the kettle" when asked how to make coffee

sam, try this:Login as Administrator or an account with Administrative privileges

Turn-off simple File Sharing: In the Windows Explorer, Tools, View, uncheck Use simple file sharing (Recommended).

In the Windows Explorer, Right click the Folder of file you wish to share, Sharing and security…, select Share this folder, give it a share name without a $ or “funny” characters in it, add any desired comment, click Permissions, Remove or configure the group Everyone as desired, click Add, Advanced, Find Now, select desired groups, configure the new groups, Apply, click YES if prompted about changing the share.

this worked for me, but I had windows 2000,home xp and xp pro on 3 machines
make sure all are same workgroup and names of pc's are correct on each machine...if you connect, you can add printer as a network printer...good luck..have fun.
this has some added help http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040

If you can't get Remote Administrator to work, try UltraVNC (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ultravnc/), I've used this for months without a single problem.

Ensure the IP address is correct for each one...

For example,

PC 1 = 192.168.1.1
PC 2 = 192.168.1.2

I don't know how yours is set up though so just ensure the IP addresses are correct.

If you got it set right, you'll get the password screen come up. Good idea is to ensure that the password is the same on both computers.

Also if you have these all done correctly and it still doesn't work, go to the other PC and do the following...

Start > All Programs > Remote Administrator > START REMOTE SERVER

It could be off, but do the above before trying this.
