Which RAM?

It’s been a few years since I’ve had to buy any DDR so my knowledge on it’s current pricing is almost non existent.

I’m looking for two 512MB sticks for my "Gigabyte GA-7N400PRO2 nForce 2 8xAGP Ultra400 400 FSB DDR400"

Are there any good deals that currently stand out on ebuyer (other than their extra value ram of course :naughty: :sick: )

I tend to lean towards Crucial, but have heard good things about Samsung? :unsure:

(The pricing has changed quite a bit since I last bought some, it seems cheaper these days, I last bought some a few years ago for an old Mercury mobo and it was double to what seems fair now :ermm: )

Samsung's TCCD chips are hawt, and several brands use them.

You should look for something that has those chips if you can find anything.

It depends on what you need the RAM to do.
If running at stock clockspeed (200 FSB) then you want the tightest timings you can find.
I just chose Patriot EP (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-220-018&depa=1) for that very reason.

If headroom is needed for overclocking, then I'd recommend Mushkin Blue (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-212&depa=1) as very capable for the price.

I’m not looking to overclock a great deal on this machine, it’s been in the making since Christmas and will be used without a lot of tinkering, and it’s taken this long to get a few parts so running the risk of overclocking blunders isn’t an option at this moment in time. It’s also going to replace my primary machine so...

I’m just looking for something sturdy and reliable :)

The Patriot is only a few days old and I'm nowhere near setup properly, so I can't comment on it's performance yet.

On the other hand, I've used the Muskin on all my previous builds (from several socketAs to three 754s) and it's never failed yet.

I’ll take a look at some UK sites, see what they’re offering in the way of Patriot – Is Circular and Kingston no good these days or below/the standard? :unsure:

I prefer to recommend based on personal experience and since Mushkin is the only RAM I've ever used, I'm out of suggestions.

Are all mainstream products with few problems. Good for non overclocking. If you buy PC3200 then they should all run fine at 400MHz.
