Looks just like http://www.mininova.org/ which was started by a mod or admin of SuprNova I think...

public sites always suck. 2 many damn leechers. private trackers will al ways be better because you are forced 2 seed

SMALL public sites suck, but large ones like suprnova was and torrentspy is still can't be beat for the amount and variaty of torrents that get uploaded. Most of the people who download and don't seed are probably people who are too used to private sites and think it's a waste of time uploading when it's not going to go towards a better ratio.

more people=more people likely to seed

Public = More people know they can leech not seed and get away with it. Bittorent sucks anyway, people will never stop leechers on Suprnova type sites.

yeah, those sites you are connected to about 1000 peers and you get a download speed of 30K if youre lucky.

And on private trackers, youre connected to 1 peer and can get 500K.

Im never using public trackers again, unless i really really need to.

And also, most public tracker sites has popups and spyware.

Just my opinion

I disagree. I've just used Torrentspy for a set of files that i couldn't find anywhere else, and they came down with 100+K speeds.

Sometimes forcing people to seed just means that alot of people are seeding the same thing. And it's only getting downloaded so that the people downloading it can seed it to. I'm finding it hard to keep a good ratio on some private sites since there aren't as many people looking for things, so you get a handful that are initially interested in the torrent and then nothing. So to keep seeding, I need to keep downloading..

Torrentspy
-Non Scene stuff
-Virii
-Fake Files
-Slow Speeds (Max i've ever seen is 120kb/s)
-Slow to get new files up
-Being watched by multiple movie and music companies.
-Password protected files
-Usually seeded by one person with about 30kb/s upload.

TorrentBytes
-Scene Stuff Only (Keeps quality of files high)
-No Fake files, spyware, adware, password protected files or virri
-Extreamly fast speeds (360kb/s+ on my 3mb connection)
-Very fast to get new scene release files (20mins after pre time usually)
-Ratio means people who leech all your bandwidth are banned
-Usually seeded on private 10mbit (1.2mb/s upload) or 100mbit (12mb/s upload) private dedicated servers.

No, we are not pretentious. First off all i was asking you was a simple question, not flaming you. I was just asking you why we should invite you and not one of the other hundreds of people who come here looking for one, a simple character based question, which you replied in a rather agressive manor. Now that people know you have empornium invites im sure they will gladly do a trade. Being nice gets you a long way :)

ok, well, i'm sorry. the truth is most of the time i seem to be dealing with 'holier than thou' people when it comes to this sort of thing, and i took your post to have an agreesive quality to it, again, sorry. anyway, i am looking for an invitation obviously, but my original question is how do i go about doing this? i'm not allowed to post in the invitations thread, so i'm just trying to figure out another way... thanks.

OkTerrific. Really, I found that the best way is to become a part of the community here and once you have your 10 posts post in the invites section. It works (ie you do get invites) so it's worth the time it takes to get there.

I have a question which might be best as a new thread, but it also falls sort along the lines of the discussion that's been going on here.

With Torrentspy having problems with their site, what do people think is the best site to get video files? (movies, tv etc)

Try and get an account on www.torrentbytes.net you won't regret it, also remember there is a large ED2K fan basis with lots of new and old movies, games and music being hashed and put onto sites.

IRC is also good for new movies.

Torrentbytes has a user limit of 10,000, but they delete about 200 inactive members a day. Keep trying, it is the best bittorent source for files.

It was just simply decided after many just signed up to get an invite and then gone to limit it to those having at least 10 posts on the forum which is really not much to ask so as long as you dont spam for the sole purpose of getting the 10 posts just hang out and check out the forum, make a few posts and then post in the invites section ...

thanks for all the info guys, sorry i called you pretentious haha. also sorry to continue the off topis questions, but can anyone tell me if oink is as good as many people say? i'm mostly looking for 'underground' music, indie lables, rock/punk stuff. are there any other sites that are as good or better than oink?

Newsgroups would be good for that type of music, however its slightly more complicated than Bittorent.

Hello!

I would also like to recommend the worlds largest free public tracker the Swedish The Pirate Bay that has lots of stuff and a large user base:

http://www.thepiratebay.org/frame.html

I use it all the time and usually gets what I want and its got PrOn to but only if you sign up for an account and turn of the porn filter!.

And the great thing is that beeing swedish the RIAA and MPAA cant get to them infact the legal threats section is funny reading:

Private trackers= good for new things, not old things. good if you want something at 600kb/s down.(No programs/apps/games/movies older than 5 minutes can be downloaded on private trackers) have to wait forever to sign up... always leaving torrents open does not accomodate for the family lifestyle, IE, people signing on and off windows, therefore cannot keep Bittorrent open to seed.

Public tracker= good for old and new, but will be rarely as fast. can find pretty much anything on public trackers. even if there is 1 seeder, it still means you will still eventually get the download. no need to sign up, often comes with searches to track down the torrent you are looking for.

I'll be glad to join some of private trackers but it's so hard to keep good ratio. Situation is that my DSL conn. is 712/128Kbps (in theory). That means i need 7-8 times more time for upload to get deacent ratio though upload is constantly open and all this with only one dl per a week. For ex. just d.loaded 3GB file and now have to wait ca 1week before regaining those ratio credits!!
Mild version of catch22 :D

You guys know that prometeus (without the H) search engine thingy? I chanced upon it and it was pretty good... apparently now it's been banned by its own host. Sad...

Btw, that tracker does experience a fair bit of downtime, incase you wonder if I've posted the wrong url - it's down atm too

Big servers have thier ups, as ziggyjaurez mentioned...lotsa files, unfortunatley the most popular files see to have the greatets proportion of leechers, even after they've been uploaded a good few times, but then that is inevitable...

Try www.filemp3.org, not sure if it has the kind of music u need, but it has lot of mp3 albums, mostly popular bands i think.
