Well my dad got in to an accident yesterday...he was on the 401(highway)...more details after pix. Btw its a 1993 Camry with only 125k on it. :(
First lets get started with pics:
http://img234.echo.cx/img234/8694/10002747bc.th.jpg (http://img234.echo.cx/my.php?image=10002747bc.jpg)

http://img234.echo.cx/img234/8491/10002757ge.th.jpg (http://img234.echo.cx/my.php?image=10002757ge.jpg)

Here's how it happened....
http://img259.echo.cx/img259/4576/crash6gn.th.jpg (http://img259.echo.cx/my.php?image=crash6gn.jpg)
Hopefully its easy to understand...dont mind my crap artisitic skills...but thats the highway and my dad was on the fast lane (far left) driving the same speed as the PICKUP truck(it wasn't a 18wheeler) in front which was 120km/h but then all of a sudden the truck halted...(crashed).

My dad was about 2-3 car distance away from the Chevy Truck he applied the brakes as hard as he could the car skidded and when he realized that he won't be able to stop so he tried to change lanes but he still hit the Pickup truck at about 60-80km/h. :(

Luckily there was a off duty cop behind my dad and he pulled over and sat in the car with him. The off duty cop saw everything and my dad wasn't given a ticket or charged. The insurance will let him go and his insurance is not going to increase.

My dad luckily wasn't injured he was taken to the hospital for xrays but everything was good just minor bruises. :)

So here we are missing our great Camry. We will probably buy another camry and proabably the same model 1993-1996 but it is going to be hard to find a low milage one like ours. The car was truly perfect. And now we miss it even more because the insurancec people gave us the worst possible car for rental (04' Cavalier). Which is sh*t compared to our 1993 Camry.

btw the camry was loaded sunroof, powerlocks, windows, automatic seat ajustments etc. etc.

the intresting thing about this pic is that imagine the guy who was riding that yellow bike in the background...wonder where he is now...

btw dont mind the spelling mistakes i may have made.

Cool pics :01:

Shame about the car ... but it's only nuts and bolts, a crash at that speed with other vehicles around must have been pretty scary so it's a good thing no-one was hurt.

What's wrong with the Cavalier, I just googled and it looks okay, in a cuboid N. American typical motor kindofway

Ouch. Poor Toymota. :pinch:

Glad to hear your Dad's alright. Maybe he should buy a lottery ticket.

On a side note, did the fuel guage in your Dad's Camry ever give false readings? There was a lot of complaints from Camry owners in Australia because they were always running out of fuel when the guage still read a quarter full.

Glad your dad is OK.

Sorry the car is fecked.

Tell him he was driving too close to the car in front. This is not open to debate, if you ever hit another vehicle from behind you were too close for the speed you were doing. You should have enough distance to stop if he hammers his brakes on.

He was 3 car distance away from the truck and he was fully aware of the truck in front of him and he was going the same speed as him. He slammed on the brakes he skidded all the way in to the truck....

And no we had no fuel guage problems

you should be two seconds behind the car in front. i don't even need to engage my brain to realise thats more than about 2 car lengths at 120kph

A 3 car length distance at 120 km/h is way too close. There should be at least 3 seconds between you and the car in front.

rush hour at 120 kph?

whatever you say the accident could have been avoided had he followed the guidelines

I don't care if it was the Monaco Grand Prix, he was too close.

The fact that other people drive too close as well changes nothing. In fact it's even more reason for driving properly. It gives you time to slow more gradually and prevent the arsewhole whose tailgating you from causing an unnecessary crash ( I delierately avoid using the word accident here).

it's still an accident if it's due to carelessness

Not on the road, it's now an incident (in the UK). Ask the people who have to go clear up the mess. They don't attend an RTA now, they attend an RTI.

There are no accidents anymore coz there is always at least someone or something at fault. If it's something at fault, then it's someone's fault that the thing went wrong.

GepperRankins
04-24-2005, 03:16 PM
that means there's no such thing as an accident then, as i've never heard an "act of god" referred to as an accident.

what if theres a wild animal involved?

there is = there's or theres?

Mr JP Fugley
04-24-2005, 03:23 PM
Depends just how wild it is.

What annoyed it.

"there's" coz you dropped the "i". Same as "wasn't", didn't" etc.

However you have a problem with tense, assuming the incident is not currently taking place.

GepperRankins
04-24-2005, 03:27 PM
the event is hypothetical so it's niether past, present or future

So how can you use "is" in that sentence, indicating present tense.

because it's easier to type than "were to be" :ermm:

Nah, it's crazy like a fox.

Do you mean " What if there were to be a crazy animal that caused the incident?"

Or sly like a fox, I suppose.

what if there were to be a blind deaf stupid fox who ran into the road, damaging a car so the driver had absolutely no control causing it to cross into the wrong lane and strike another vehicle?

is that an accident?

No. A driver should be prepared for all types of events that could happen on the road. If there is an incident then he wasn't being a defensive (enough) driver.
