Hi. My subscription to Norton just ended, so now before I resubscribe to them, I'm wondering what the best Antivirus software is. I'm willing to spend money on the software; I was gonna pay to resubscribe Norton, but before I do, is there anything better I can use?

Thanks,
DSF

Why would you pay for the software? I use NAV05 and it works fine.

I like NOD32 the best.
Uses VERY LITTLE resources, no slow downs form it at all. :D
And it has some of the top virus definitions as well (up there with norton).

Norton SystemWorks is one of the few software's I actually buy

Been using it since 2002 and it hasn't failed me yet :01:

We're actually still using Norton 2003; we're not rebuying the software, just updating the subscriptions to the virus definitions.

Has anybody here tried out a bunch of different AV softwares and chosen a specific one as the "best"?

Yeah, I've tried Norton's 2k1,2,3 and 4, Nod32, Kaspersky (sp?), AVG personal and avast! personal.

I settled on avast because of a few reasons.

It uses very little resources.
The updates download in seconds, even with just a dialup connection.
They update the virus definitions at least once a day, sometimes as many as three times a day, which is amazing considering it's a free AV.

And when avast catches a virus, wow, does it ever let you know!

I've tried like a half dozen AVs. My pick is Kaspersky Personal.

I have heard many good things about Kapersky.

I've never used anything but Norton AV, but all I really know is that Norton is such a resouce hog, and not to good about cleaning and updating...

I tried a bunch and Avast (http://www.avast.com/) was the best for me. :)

Tried quite a few and Kaspersky came out tops for me, Norton is too much of a resource hog and invades every bit of my pc like a ..............

......VIRUS would!!!

I use AVG Free on my 32 bit XP and avast! on the 64 bit ( cause it's the only one I could find...).
Both have worked fine so far.

I just tried Avast and after I'd installed it last night, this morning I had no internet. I uninstalled it and the internet's back.... coincidence?

Maybe I'll go for a trial or something with Kaspersky and try it out, but I'm still open to suggestions.

yes u've tried a lotttt of av programs.
almost all of them slow down my computer, except for nod32 and avg.
nod32 has the better definitions so that's my choice.

If you like Norton products but are concered about resources , try Symantec Antivirus Corp .
